What is the very latest ROM build for the Smartphone. My phone currently is on 1.3.5.6?

TIA

The Orange ROM 1.3.7 Update was the last update I've seen. It's the one with the keyboard drivers. It will recertify the phone as well.

put it this way, besides the keyboard driver, and the decertification loophole, it dont do a lot else, hence me not upgrading ;)

Hi all,

I have some questions I would really appreciate input on (I hope this isn't too many for one post). :-|

When I boot up my phone it has a white background with the picture of a yellow canary on a stick with the black text 'Test Only. Not for Sale'. In the upper left it says '1.35 test 1 1.24.00' And... when I hit power and voice at the same time to power up it says Canary .93

Questions:

What does all of this mean? From searching and reading other posts I beleive it means I have a bootloader of .93, correct?

I am not really sure what 'bootloader means' (I am guessing it's like a BIOS and the ROM version is like an OS)?

Also, I'm not sure what all the other stuff means (white screen with Canary and numbers)?

I live in the US and currently have ROM version 1.3.5.0

I guess I can't get 1.3.7 because I am in the states and I don't see that version on the Orange website (assuming I can't do OTA since I am in the states and not an Orange customer). I can see the 1.3.5.6 on the Orange site though...

Last questions:

If I upgrade with the file to 1.3.5.6 will it recertify apps or lock the sim?

I don't have any Orange specific icons or programs on my phone (which I like since I don't have Orange). Will this update put them on? If so, can I just remove them?

Any other additional advice before I upgrade to 1.3.5.6?

I am a little reluctant to upgrade because I haven't done it before, my phone was sent to me unlocked (I love it!!), and I don't want to mess it up... :-|

Your time and help is appreciated! Thanks!!

Mike

First off, where did you get the handset? All the following advice is assuming the Orange updates are compatible with the release you have:

Yes, you have bootloader v.93

Yes, the bootloader is similar to a PC's BIOS, and allows you to manage the ROM images.

"Canary" is the codename for the SPV, it's sister model is the "Tanager" (both birds...).

No, you won't be able to get 1.3.7 until its released as a downloadable file/included in a new update.

The UK1 update will recertify your phone, but not affect the SIM lock (afaik).

The update will add these, you can remove them.

OTA should work fine, anywhere in the world assuming you have GPRS enabled or passthrough working.

sounds like you've got your hands on an early development phone to me  in fact, that may actually be worth something in a few years hehe (or maybe not ;))

OK, thanks a lot for the info!! I'll need to read up a ton on decertifying so I feel comfortable before I do the upgrade... That's a good idea to do the passthrough for updating too!

hi everyone!

I'm in a similiar situation, as I reside in Canada and just got the flex keyboard shipped to me this morning ... do you know if the new ROM update (1.3.7) is available for download anywhere as when I go to orange update all I see is backgrounds and ringtones, or if there's any other way to get the keyboard to work? I currently have 1.3.6 installed. Thanks in advance!

The only way to get it is to run the orange update program, and you will need to have your locale set to English(United Kingdom) before running it. I suggest using the passthrough connector on your PC. I'm not 100% certain that will work, but its worth a try. Be aware that if you do get the keyboard driver update it will recerify your phone, and then the only way to uncertify is the http://developers.orange.com website.

Tried changing the Locale, tuened the phone off and back on and tried Orange update again - no luck, all I see is a message that says "Your device is up-to-date. There're no new updates or applications available at this time." and that's it ... ;) Any other ideas?

Erm, try installing the downloadable UK update first?

Forgive my ignorance, but which downloadable update are you refering to? I've downloaded and installed 1.3.6 ... that's the only one I was able to find so far. Is there another one ? Many thanks!
