Please please advise on about e-mail.

I have a work e-mail address which I will continue to use in work only.

I also have an hotmail account which I have accessed using the SPV, viewed, created and sent e-mails using this although I have not tried to send or receive attachments.

Q1. Is it possible to send and/or receive attachments from hotmail using the explorer application.

The advantage with hotmail is the e-mail is stored on the hotmail server, if I don't want to download the attachment I don't have to, hence saving me quota, well when we do have to pay for each kb.

I also have a home e-mail account with blueyonder, and have a broadband internet connection. At the moment I sync with Outlook on my PC (using XP) with no probs, in fact it is working just fine hence I don't want to mess around with me settings too much.

However, although not essential, I would like to be able to e-mail, with attachments to and from the SPV. So I guess I need to set up my phone to access my blueyonder account ? Trouble is I do see a fair bit of mail, some spam, some genuine, and I am concerned that if I access my mail remotley I'll end up downloading loads of data and therefore end up paying large ammounts of cash for the "pleasure".

Also when I do go to set up my e-mail account I get the "You are currently Syncing your mail with ActiveSync. Disable this from the desktop bla bla..."

I don't want to mess around with me sync settings these are fine.

I just want to be able to send and receive attachments (pics, wavs, etc.) via e-mail.

Please advise my best option.

Cheers, Shire

you have to go to orange website, products&services (on top). Then select Orange data services (left) and it will have a step by step setup for your connection (select blueyonder GPRS). it will send u a sim update.

also, in email/msg options there is a limit of how much of an email can be downloaded for preview. Then if u decide you want the attachmnt, just mark it for download

think that should do the trick

Hmm try cutting down the question, i got confused after 10 lines,

With the current software, the spv can EITHER synch email with you outlook OR your POP mail server..

I think that you can do more with an exchange server and stuff, but i have not tried yet.

Thx for the replies Madukrainian and Will.

Sort of managed my way round it.

Have set my mail up to receive from pop3.blueyonder.co.uk, send through the smtp.orange.net so far so good. No large attachments downloading without me wanting it.

Fantastic.

Only, minor problem, and I can live with this, when I sync through PC I have to set up my phone again to send/receive e-mails through dial up. But as the settings are already stored in there it only takes a few seconds.

Sorry for the long post.

Cheers, for your help.

Next probs to resolve is accessing Power Management settings & Sending Pictures on e-mail.

Getting there, and yes, I love my SPV.

Cheers, Shire :D

Nice one madukrainian, tried it, and yes it now works like a dream :D .

Just need to be able to access me power management settings and i reckon i've got it running perfick.

Phoned Orange today and they didn't know what the problem with accessing my power management settings is. They offered a replacement handset but I got it running sweat but for this one minor problem, don't want to swap it and get some other problem?

Orange also set me MMS up with a sim update. I've tested it and can now succesfully send pictures by e-mail, yay :(

Just the power settings, think I got another post somewhere.

Cheers for help, Shire

What you could do (i think) is:

- Synchronize (saves all contacts etc)

- Orange Backup (saves some things too)

- Copy your IPSM folder on your PC, which should take care of all the settings (again, I think)

Perform a Hard Reset (how to.. in another post). Carefull with this one.

IPSM folder back to phone.

Orange Restore

Sync

Hopefully you will restore pwr mgmt feature and keep your settings..

Or do the backup part of it and then replace ur handset and restore as above.

Disclaimer: I have not done this myself, and not sure it's gonna work - but seems logical to me.

Pm me, maybe i'l email you my PwrMgmt files, see if they work on urs.

FYI

smtp.orange.net as a resolved address is

193.35.131.155

I find this faster over GPRS.

TZed9,

But that would only affect actual connect time, right??

Cheers Madukrainian, if you don't mind e-mailing the files, and their location to [email protected], I'll give them a try.

How do you know what these files are ?

I was thinking about doing a hard reset, however I'm too chicken s*** to do it, specially as apart from that it's all working fine.

TZed9, as Madukrainian hinted, this is used to send e-mails only, realistically i doubt I send too many and to be honest when I select send/receive mail it all happens pretty quick.

Do you mean for Internet access/browsing ?

Cheers, Shire
