Guest msiviter Posted April 30, 2003 Report Posted April 30, 2003 I have modded my cradle as per the link page on coolspartphone.com but XP shuts the USB port off with a power surge notification. Seems crappy no mention of this problem anywhere what a waste of an hour!
Guest vijay555 Posted April 30, 2003 Report Posted April 30, 2003 assuming you've wired it correct way round (why would xp say it's a power surge?), you may need a powered hub. When i did my ipaq cradle, there was barely enough juice to charge it, and that was only when ipaq was switched off. Might be something similar here, depending on motherboard/hub voltage strength. V
Guest Monolithix [MVP] Posted April 30, 2003 Report Posted April 30, 2003 Yeah, bear in mind the SPV has a 1000mA battery and the max output for USB is 500mA. If you're running off an unpowered hub that charge will be shared across all devices...
Guest awarner [MVP] Posted May 1, 2003 Report Posted May 1, 2003 Seems crappy no mention of this problem anywhere what a waste of an hour! More likely you have either wired it wrong or have created a short while soldering (as the connections are very small so it's easy to do) I run XP and also had it running on ME as well with this mod and been happy with it for months.
Guest vijay555 Posted May 1, 2003 Report Posted May 1, 2003 awarner, you haven't found any voltage problems or anything have you? And i don't suppose you know a post to a proper description of how to do it. The french with drug induced english one makes my head spin! (otherwise, if you can give a quick run down, or point me at a thread?) V
Guest awarner [MVP] Posted May 1, 2003 Report Posted May 1, 2003 No problems at all ;) with voltage remember the battery is rated at 3.7v and USB is 5v also the battery may be 1000mA but that's not the charge current. I'll see if I can find a link for you but it is very easy to do.
Guest awarner [MVP] Posted May 1, 2003 Report Posted May 1, 2003 This is probably the same link you refered to which is the one I used. http://w3.ridingzone.com/jc/usb.htm The only changes I made was to use a piece of telephone cable (single cord cable) and to prevent accidental plugging in of the charger (as if that's really going to happen  ) I tucked the charger socket inside the cradle out of the way.
Guest vijay555 Posted May 1, 2003 Report Posted May 1, 2003 Cool, will hack that bugger up ASAP. Made a right pig's ass of my IPAQ cradle mod, but it'a great to have the function. Anyone thought of reverse engineering a serial cradle, just for fun? We did the same with the ipaq cradle, although can't think why anyone would now-a-days... V
Guest Monolithix [MVP] Posted May 1, 2003 Report Posted May 1, 2003 For the record, the SPV has a 5V input rating... ;)
Guest gradiation Posted May 1, 2003 Report Posted May 1, 2003 I've hacked mine and it works fine with XP, did it a while ago, in fact i was the guy who reminded coolsnartphone to post it up ;)
