Guest beavis82 Posted April 30, 2003 Report Posted April 30, 2003 Hey, When making Homescreens, I've discovered a strange problem. When making a homescreen with either the 'Missed Calls' or 'Call In Progress' details, the homescreen doesn't show up in the list of screens within settings. If I take these functions out of the XML file, the homescreen shows up in the list correctly. The strange thing is - it used to work! It stopped showing my homescreens with Missed Calls and Call In Progress information built in all of a sudden last night. The default Orange homescreens that display such information do show in the list however, and they work correctly. Anyone have any ideas? Cheers Si
Guest madu Posted April 30, 2003 Report Posted April 30, 2003 Maybe a single missed character in XML file?? Usually that f**** it up.. Open XML in IE for viewing - it will point out sections with errors
Guest Monolithix [MVP] Posted April 30, 2003 Report Posted April 30, 2003 Yep, one wrong character will stop the phone from identifing the entire home screen (I missed a ' " ' once :/). Check and double check everything is present and correct.
Guest beavis82 Posted May 1, 2003 Report Posted May 1, 2003 Cheers for the tip - that sorted it out! :) There were some foreign language words in the XML files that contained 'illegal' characters - Internet Explorer pointed them out. They were always in the files, so I don't know why it worked for a while and then suddenly stopped. Interestingly, when I opened the default Orange homescreens in Internet Explorer it pointed out that they also contained illegal characters, yet they still work on the phone  ah well, yet another quirk on a quirky phone! The SPV is definately a female phone - irrational and it makes no sense! Maybe it's my phone's time of the month? ;) * *no offence intended S
Guest Richie M Posted May 1, 2003 Report Posted May 1, 2003 Beavis, some characters the Internet Explorer say are illegal are perfectly valid in XML  For example and ASCII space, is valid in a text tag but IE will complain about.
