I use Dreamweaver MX, just about the best WYSIWYG tool out there, but it ain't cheap (something like £400). The purists on here will tell you to write HTML in notepad or something but unless you're used to it, it isn't the simplist thing to pick up and it can take a few weeks before your producing something simple.

For graffics, I use a combination of Fireworks MX (great for button graffic designing) and Photoshop 6.0 (for photo manipulations and stuff. Fireworks works really well with Dreamweaver but Photoshop is probably the better overall package. Again, these are not cheap.

You can pick trial versions of all of them if you want to try out and see what they can do.

I agree with SirGaz, I've tried all sorts of programs but I found the Macromedia set the best. Dreamweaver MX, Fireworks MX and Flash MX for when you just have to get flashy!

i use acehtml, but then, it's all about personal preference.

as for graphics, nothing can touch photoshop.

and if you want some web templates (flash mainly), try Gui Stuff
