Guest NickB&SPV Posted April 30, 2003 Report Posted April 30, 2003 Yesterday I managed to get an SPV with an old bootloader, so I put an 8mb SD card in the phone and selected "Save All", it saved Bootloader and Win CE. (There was no option just to save just bootloader) I then transfered to my SPV and downloaded both Bootloader and Win CE. I Did I need to change the Win CE back to the new one (beacause it had pic manager and sound manager on the menu)? Which I did and f****d the phone up and had to start again inc. re-certing it which I managed to do first time with the file transfer method. (the ipsm back up i had on an SD card did not work) Now got it back to normal as it was yesterday morning.
Guest Richie M Posted April 30, 2003 Report Posted April 30, 2003 Afraid there are only two ways to get just the bootloader on m8. 1) with a card reader and WinHex, dont ask me aint done it :) 2) use USBTerm ;)
Guest HelloDave Posted April 30, 2003 Report Posted April 30, 2003 AFAIK you need 1) and 2) of Richie M's methods (that's how I did it). Put the bootloader onto an SD card with WinHex and then use USBTerm to load it onto the SPV. Images of the bootloader are downloadable from the USBTerm website. NickB - restoring everything from an SD card didn't work for you because there's no way you can fit the entire contents of the SPVs memory onto an 8mb SD - it needs 32Mb at least (more if you use USBTerm for some reason). The phone saves things in the order Bootloader, WinCE, GSM, IPSM - it would have fitted the bootloader on an 8mb SD, but not WinCE so it would have stopped at that point. This means your card either has just the bootloader on it or the bootloader and a bit of WinCE as well, in which case it should have just restored the bootloader when you chose "load all" and you didn't need to touch WinCE! There's a lot of information on this topic here
Guest NickB&SPV Posted April 30, 2003 Report Posted April 30, 2003 I was too impatient, I knew it would be best to use USBTerm but I just inserted SD card, pressed rec. and power and it gave me the option to download bootloader & WinCE so I did. I have old bootloader on now but I wish I'd have done it properly. Saved me a lot of hassle.I was too impatient, I knew it would be best to use USBTerm but I just inserted SD card, pressed rec. and power and it gave me the option to download bootloader & WinCE so I did.
