Guest jmjarvis Posted May 1, 2003 Report Posted May 1, 2003 I thought I'd post this here just in case someone somewhere is aware of this and have a solution. I have a tick in the box described as "Sign in when a connection is available"for Messenger. So when I switch on my phone I head on over to MSN Messenger only to find that its NOT signed in. When I sign in it tells me that I am already signed in and only then shows me the contacts screen. Any ideas ? I was running with 1.3.5.6 but have updated to 1.3.7 this morning and I must admit have not been in a position to test with the new update. TIA Jas
Guest awarner [MVP] Posted May 1, 2003 Report Posted May 1, 2003 When you say "switch on the phone" do you mean GPRS? as with the box ticked and you are connected to GPRS then you should be signed in. This always worked for me but I only had DK1 update when I was using MSN on the phone.
Guest Bazz Posted May 1, 2003 Report Posted May 1, 2003 The "sign in when connection is available" means if you are connected to GPRS it'll sign you in. It won't start the GPRS connection for you if it's available (that could be really expensive! Look here: http://smartphone.modaco.com/viewtopic.php?t=580 ). So basically if you start IE then MSM will connect in the background. It'll also force the GPRS connection to stay open, so you will have to manually disconnect it with the hang up key. On the whole it works quite nicely. I've had that "already signed in" message before. Don't worry about it. Sometimes happens if you kill the GPRS and then restart it and Messenger (on the MS side) doesn't realise you've signed out. Barry
Guest jmjarvis Posted May 1, 2003 Report Posted May 1, 2003 Thanks for the quick responses guys. Mmmm hadn't realised, as I'm sure many people dont, just how expensive GPRS could work out. Luckily I'm only using mine to and from work so that isn't too bad as I'm forced to turn off my mobile. ;) Still, there is the weekend when I'm out and about  We just need one network to drop its prices drastically and all the others will follow suit. Hopefully it will be Orange first who do this - thats why I picked them over everyone else.
