Guest badboy4life Posted May 2, 2003 Report Posted May 2, 2003 I've read a fair few articles regarding the fact that software which wants to have the Microsoft 'Designed For Smartphone' label the software can't have an exit function. Fair enough but i find it strange that the two orange applications on the phone orange update and orange backup both have an exit option!!! Surely with this phone being jointly developed by O and MS there would be some sort of consistency in what the provide and what the expect from third party developers.
Guest The PocketTV Team Posted May 2, 2003 Report Posted May 2, 2003 Fair enough but i find it strange that the two orange applications on the phone orange update and orange backup both have an exit option!!! Yes, I noticed that, too, Those applications do not follow the MS "Smartphone 2002 logo requirements" ( http://www.microsoft.com/mobile/assets/Des..._Smartphone.pdf ). The Exit button is not necessary, but it does not hurt much either. The only draw-back of using Exit is that the application takes longer to start again. If it was already there, just sleeping in memory, bring it up front is much faster, since it does not have to run all its initialization code. So it's a sort of caching. But to work well, it requires that applications are written properly and follow some guidelines (e.g. they should not do any processing and use any CPU resources when in the background, and they should close all their files). Personally I find it rare that I have to (or would like to) use Exit on a Smartphone application. It is useful with buggy apps, though :-) . But I would prefer to have the option.
Guest Richie M Posted May 2, 2003 Report Posted May 2, 2003 Yeah but you'll notice that the Orange apps arent MS Logo Certified ;) And ASFAIK Orange were not involved in the development, they were just the first to take it on board
