Guest tomdbomb61 Posted May 4, 2003 Report Posted May 4, 2003 im thinking of buying one of the new 3g handsets just wondering if ayone knows for sure if can get them unlocked to accept say an 02 sim card? thanks tom
Guest Firaas Posted May 4, 2003 Report Posted May 4, 2003 Apparently not. When I contacted their sales staff, I was told 3g took different types of sim cards - "USIM" - which looked exactly the same as 2g SIMs, but didn't work on 2g phones, and 2g SIMs didn't work on 3g phones (and apparently can damage the phone).
Guest tomdbomb61 Posted May 4, 2003 Report Posted May 4, 2003 i c thats a shame because i get so many free texts with my genie sim card! ill just have to have two fones then lol
Guest Monolithix [MVP] Posted May 4, 2003 Report Posted May 4, 2003 I was under the impression 2G SIM's worked in 3G phones, but not vice versa...
Guest fozzie Posted May 4, 2003 Report Posted May 4, 2003 Just tried Orange, Virgin & Vodacom (SA) SIMs in my NEC e606 and none of them were accepted. It threw up a message about invalid SIM card. The 3 SIM is accepted in my 6150 but does not lock onto the O2 network. Although, looking at NetMonitor, it is getting good reception from 3 BTS's and the network code is 23410, which is correct. Perhaps the SIM is tied to the IMEI of the NEC phone?
Guest tomdbomb61 Posted May 4, 2003 Report Posted May 4, 2003 so then folks what do we think? ive currently got a nokia 3410 loll with a genie sim card in that really costs me nothing to text on! and im getting my pre ordered nec e606 on wednsday and it really would be good if i could some how get the 3g phone to accept it. ne ideas of where to start looking? thanks tom
Guest amo Posted May 4, 2003 Report Posted May 4, 2003 If you find out how to do it lemme know cos ive been trying to find out with no luck. In the terms and conditions of "three" it states that you can get the phone unlocked but you have to pay the full rrp of the phone plus an unlocking fee (around £15 I beleive). Ive had the phone since thursday and i like it, not been activated yet tho so im not happy at all!
Guest tomdbomb61 Posted May 4, 2003 Report Posted May 4, 2003 there is some guy on ebay selling apparantly an unlocked e606. so i emailed him and he sed it does accpept all uk sim cards orange etc, however he didnt say how he got it unlocked! so ive emailed him again, dont know what hes going to come back with! but im guessing its just a case of getting an unlock code?
Guest tomdbomb61 Posted May 4, 2003 Report Posted May 4, 2003 has anyone tried an 02 sim card, bearing in mind that when the fone is in 2g mode it uses the 02 network to roam? ????
