Guest ambro Posted May 4, 2003 Report Posted May 4, 2003 i'd say divx quality for clips is a lot sharper, however pockettv can handle the higher frame rates a bit better with slightly lower quality as divx =)
Guest Saif Posted May 4, 2003 Report Posted May 4, 2003 got to be divx.... is there really a serious discussion about this???? DIVX::DIVX::DIVX::DIVX::DIVX::DIVX::DIVX::DIVX::DIVX::DIVX::DIVX::DIVX::DIVX::DI X::DIVX::DIVX::DIVX::DIVX::
Guest terminater2_uk Posted May 4, 2003 Report Posted May 4, 2003 Both seem pretty much the same to me. All i wanna do is watch video playback. Don't really notice any difference in quality but Pockettv seems to have more functions so i'll go with that one.
Guest Simon Desser Posted May 4, 2003 Report Posted May 4, 2003 PocketTV for stability, ease of use and better controls. PocketDivx for sheer QUALITY ;) Quality of playback wins it for me :!:
Guest rchiileea Posted May 4, 2003 Report Posted May 4, 2003 my collection says it all divx for me as well
Guest jim80b Posted May 4, 2003 Report Posted May 4, 2003 the new beta2 is as easy to use as pockettv, and has skins... and can handle 24fps fine :-) Pocket MVP!!!!!!!!
Guest The PocketTV Team Posted May 4, 2003 Report Posted May 4, 2003 > and can handle 24fps fine A blanket statement like that cannot be made. The fps that you get depends on the compression format, bitrate and video size of the encoded file. Try http://www.clinteastman.pwp.blueyonder.co....ailer_final.mpg It plays at 20 fps with PocketTV, but only 12-15 fps with PocketDivX/PocketMVP
Guest NederSoren Posted May 4, 2003 Report Posted May 4, 2003 The PocketTV thread is so looong... and i cant be bougthered to read it.. so i voted pocket_Mvp cuz i dont know if the pocketTv has its own explorer yet.. ;)

Guest spacemonkey Posted May 4, 2003 Report Posted May 4, 2003 To be honest, I can't really be bothered watching movies on the spv (apart from showing off to my mates). The question between these 2 is totally that pocket tv runs quicker cos it requires less hardware, but pocket mvp (divx) is better quality for file size. When faster hardware starts appearing then the advantages of pocket tv may be reduced.
Guest ClintEastman Posted May 4, 2003 Report Posted May 4, 2003 I like them both!! For South Park i use DivX (fps dont make a jot of difference for that).
Guest The PocketTV Team Posted May 5, 2003 Report Posted May 5, 2003 Honnestly, among the people who voted for PocketDivX, how many have actually tried the latest beta of PocketTV ? If you have not tried both, I would consider it quite unfair to vote here. BTW we have tried the latest beta of PocketDivX, which works ok (although not very stable, but that's probably nothing to do with the UI).
Guest NederSoren Posted May 5, 2003 Report Posted May 5, 2003 Does the PocketTv have its own explorer???? Thats the only reason i deleted it... simply to much trouble to use smart explorer.. and btw.. it was pretty shitty to have it on the phone anyway (Dunno if that is fixed in latest version though... cant be bougthered to try it beffore it contains its own explorer)

Right now this is not at the very top of our priority list, since PocketTV works well with an external file explorer, and Smart Explorer works very well and is free (in fact, shareware, but you are not forced to purchase it). And Smart Explorer and easy to install, very small and very fast, and it works well. I cannot understand that you have problems using it. But if you prefer waiting a couple of weeks rather than using an external file explorer, no problem. We found that the *best* file explorer for the Smartphone is the one from IA Style (called IA File Manager). It is not free, but very good, a lot better than ALL-Explorer. You can choose the file explorer that you want to use with PocketTV (using PocketTv Menu > Options > File Selector, and then PocketTV Menu > Select will open it for you.
Guest spacecowboy6982 Posted May 5, 2003 Report Posted May 5, 2003 I've never had so much bloody hassel with a program and voted neither- however if i HAD to vote then it would be DivX cos' @ least i got it installed easily !!!
Guest jbyte Posted May 5, 2003 Report Posted May 5, 2003 I've tried the latest versions of both softwares. With PocketTV the color is more enhanced than PocketMVP, but it's only slight difference. One major advantage of PocketMVP is that it can play mpeg files as will. When I played Clint's Matrix2 trailer on PocketTV, I appreciated the color details of the clip but there's somewhat some kind of pixelation on some portions of the mpg, but when I played it on PocketMVP although color is not as good as PocketTV but it manage to play it smoothly. I'll stand by PocketMVP. In fact I associated the mpg files on my SD Card to PocketMVP so that I can play the mpg file using the PocketMVP via SmartExplorer and it works fine with me.
Guest awarner [MVP] Posted May 5, 2003 Report Posted May 5, 2003 I like and use both, never had any real problems that were not fixed quickly. MVP is more power hungry than PocketTV but has better quality but PocketTV has a faster menu system (even with having to use Smart Explorer) so if both could be mixed into one unit I would be very happy ;) Unlikely to happen but I can always dream.

Unfortunately gregbarton, who created this poll thread, does not allow you to select "both" ! (only neither)
