Please follow the link above for download and installation instructions, thanks.

New features: See last posting of this thread.

The latest beta version of PocketTV fixes the various problems discussed in the other (long) thread. You don't need to read this long thread, just follow the link above for installation instructions and demo files. The long thread contains more encoding instructions around page 23.

We keep adding new features (e.g. customizable button mapping, seeking) and we update the CAB file every day or so, so you should get the latest if you want the best :-).

See last posting of this thread for the latest new features.

Can't get it to install for some reason. My phone is unlocked and de-certified; numerous freewares have been installed, but Pocket TV tells me it can't be installed because it's not digitally signed properly.

 :?:

Yes, the beta is an unsigned CAB file. Maybe there is yet another bug in the CAB file installer ?

There is a known bug in the Smartphone CAB installer that is the following (confirmed by MS):

If the CAB installation fails for ANY reason (e.g. the CAB file cannot be read, for example it is read-protected, or it is on a Storage Card that you try to install the app on is LOCKED or does not have enough available free space, etc), then the CAB installer may indicate that "The application cannot be installed because it is not digitally signed".

So basically this message is not reliable and the cause of the problem may be unrelated.

Are you certain that your SD is unlocked and has free space ?

Yes, my SD is unlocked and has 170 MB free out of the 512 MB capacity. Weird...I've installed two more apps onto the card and phone, but this one won't go.

Have you tried to install PocketTV in the phone (not on the card) ?

Does that work ?

Unfortunately, no. I can't get to the screen that allows you to choose between the phone or the card. When I click on the cab, it begins the installation; a few seconds into that, though, is when I get a message that the installation failed.

I guess I'm not going to mess with this right now. Too bad, because I'm a registered user of the PPC Enterprise Edition and have loved it for years...I was hoping this would work.

Ok, then I'd say it's likely that your CAB file is corrupted, maybe damaged during a file transfer.

The current CAB file located at

http://www.mpegtv.com/wince/pockettv/cab/P...RTPHONE_ARM.CAB

has a size of 192,080 bytes

Check the size of your CAB file.

I'm getting the same failed installation message with the current cab, as well. Let me ask you....would there be anything in my registry that would be preventing the installation if I had Pocket TV in my phone at one time and took it out?

I installed your very first beta, but decided to take it out with all the registry hassles to use it. Would there be any leftovers that would prevent it from being installed again?

Ok, that's getting interesting now... maybe you guys found another bug in the Smartphone CAB installer (what a piece of crap! already many know problems with the CAB installer).

So, how did you remove PocketTV ? Did you use Settings > Remove Application ?

In any case, the PocketTV CAB installer only creates the following keys:

HKCRpockettv_mpgfile

HKCRpockettv_m1u

HKCRpockettv_lang

HKCRpockettv_color

So you can try to remove those keys manually and see if it makes any difference.

Besides that, PocketTV will install in a folder called PocketTV under "Program Files" (i.e. Storage CardProgram Files", so if the card is not protected and has enough room (650KB or so), I see no reason for the installation to fail.

But you say that the CAB file installer does not even give you the choice of where to install (Phone or Storage Card), so the installer fails early in the process, and I have no idea why. It works just perfectly fine on our Smartphone, and I tried several times, with the current CAB, and no problems at all...

Did you check the size of your CAB file ?

The cab has worked for me.

I have recently hard reset the phone and this is the first time I have installed pocketTV. I loaded the cab to IPSM/Windows/Accessories and using IA file manager it installed first time to storage card. I was then asked for smartexplorer which I had yet to re-install.

I also loaded the smartexplorer cab file to IPSM/windows/accessories and when selecting it using IA manager I got the same error about installation failure due to not being signed. ;) I then realised that the icon I was clicking was still the PocketTV icon and not Smartexplorer icon. I refreshed the directory and smartexplorer icon appeared correctly after which it too was also installed successfully.

This may not help others but it does prove that the cab actually works.

Problem may be due to installing PocketTV over previous installation ?

The size of my cab file is consistently 188 KB. My problems have got to lie in this cab file...I can hardly get the installation started without the error message. I've never gotten this from another app.

Why do I have the feeling that this would work if I hard reset, which is the very last thing I feel like doing?

The max ramerate is the nominal framerate at which the file has been encoded (i.e. 24, 25 or 30 fps).

The max bitrate that PocketTV can handle is very high, but it depends on the image size, too, so if the image size is small, the max bitrate will by higher.

Try 2 Mbit/sec at 176x136, I bet you PocketTV will be able to handle it (but at a very low frametrate, naturally), but this makes no sense at all to use 2 Mbit/sec at this resolution...

What is the EXACT size of your CAB file in BYTES ?

It should be 192,080 bytes (with the current BETA-15)

This problem is somehow fixed in the current beta. It is not perfect yet, it takes a few second to recover the sync, but it works much better than PocketDivX, which looses totally the A/V sync when you use their seek command... at least on our test streams (e.g. mikes_new_car_sps.mpg).

We have released a new CAB (BETA-19).

Download here: http://forum.pocketmovies.net/viewtopic.ph...php?p=3368#3368

It fixes the Audio/Video sync problem after advancing in Fast Forward (by default, Fast Forward is mapped on "2").

Now correct A/V sync is recovered very shortly after resuming normal play.

Also new "Size" options allow you to:

- Play at nominal size (the default, and the fastest)

- Resize if too large

- Fit screen

Even though resizing is very slow on the current generation of smartphone, PocketTV still works (with low fps) with MPEG files coded at SIF size (e.g. 320x240) at high bitrate (e.g. 600 Kbit/sec).

What are the improvements in Beta 20 over Beta 19?

What are the improvements in Beta 20 over Beta 19?

minor bug fixes.

e.g. a few audio packets at the beginning of the file were dropped in error when looping (i.e. repeat option causing the file to seek at the beginning when the end is reached). This is fixed in beta-20.

We have released PocketTV BETA-21.

New stuff: Seeking in file :) and it works well (fine seeking accuracy and always perfect a/v sync after seeking - compare with the "other" video player!).

By default Seeking (forward & backward) is mapped on the right & left arrows of the joystick, appropriately rotated when you watch in Fullscreen/Landscape mode.

If you have already installed an earlier BETA, in order to get the seeking functions on the joystick you need to reset the default mapping with Menu > Functions > Menu > Default Mapping.

A few other cosmetic changes in the Menu. "Buttons" has been renamed "Functions" and moved out of "Options". Options is renamed "More...". "Properties" is now under "More...".

Problem to solve: Those ennoying beeps when seeking... I think they are generated by the OS and cannot be suppressed other than by changing Home Programs > Settings > Sounds > Keypad Control to "None".

Please tell us if you like (or do not like) the way we have implemented seeking in PocketTV.

Guest ambro

the seeking function does not work for me...

tried resetting the mappings but still its not working... theres no option in the mapping for seek foward or seek back

Just downloaded it and its still beta 20... (says so when it starts up)

Also options is still called options etc, guess this isn't the BETA21.
