Guest Simon Desser Posted May 6, 2003 Report Posted May 6, 2003 What's the cheapest anyone has found 512mb SD cards. I'm not interested in using 2 x 256mb cards (I know they're dead cheap now) All the supposedly cheap online stores in the UK are asking between £227.00 and £260.00!! If anyone says look on ebay, can they post a link, as I can't see any as big as 512mb? I've found a UK outlet that's selling them for £169.99 but I havn't rung them yet to see if they have stock etc. If people think that's a good price (and they have stock) I'll post the link.
Guest James Posted May 6, 2003 Report Posted May 6, 2003 thats a good price but i would never pay that amount for something so trivial!
Guest Simon Desser Posted May 6, 2003 Report Posted May 6, 2003 I know, but I MIGHT buy it through our company and say it's a much needed computer component   Well it is, isn't it :!: :)
Guest Machineman Posted May 7, 2003 Report Posted May 7, 2003 Does it work well the big SD cards? I tried one of a friend that has one for his Palm but my phone gots laaaaaaaazy with this big card. Or is there an solution for it? I want to have a bigger card I now have just 16 MB but I want to know if my phone is still working on the same speed.
Guest James Posted May 7, 2003 Report Posted May 7, 2003 well my SPV is the same if i have my 8 meg in or my 256 meg in.
Guest SeeJ Posted May 7, 2003 Report Posted May 7, 2003 well my SPV is the same if i have my 8 meg in or my 256 meg in. I'll second that...
Guest Machineman Posted May 7, 2003 Report Posted May 7, 2003 MMMMM maybe it was slow becouse there were still some Palm progs on it
Guest angelface Posted May 8, 2003 Report Posted May 8, 2003 I haven't found any 512mb cards readily available but I bought a 128mb card from www.ebuyer.co.uk www.Scan.co.uk is also worth a look at and occasionally has offers. or 256mb for £56. 512mb for £300.00!!! ouch.
Guest smeacock Posted June 8, 2003 Report Posted June 8, 2003 Ebuyer now do 512mb for 177.67 GBP. QuickFind Code: 48646. SteveM
Guest Simon Desser Posted June 8, 2003 Report Posted June 8, 2003 I bought a 512mb SD card a couple of weeks ago for £169.99 (including VAT) I know it's a heck of a lot of money, but it's £38.00 less than the ones on Ebuyer  It's a "Lexar" card, and I bought it from, believe it or not, Jessops (the camera people) using their mail order line. Cheers Simon
Guest Immortalmindz Posted June 10, 2003 Report Posted June 10, 2003 i can get a Kingston 512mb sd card for £110 and no doubt a lesser brand would be even cheaper, ahh the joys of being a reseller.
Guest Richie M Posted June 10, 2003 Report Posted June 10, 2003 Scan have SD/MMC cards on offer this week  Go to http://www.scan.co.uk/todayonly/ and scroll to the bottom :D Ex VAT Inc Vat 64MB ScanFlash Secure Digital (SD) Memory £17.50 £20.56 128MB ScanFlash Secure Digital (SD) Memory £39.95 £46.94 256M ScanFlash Secure Digital (SD) Memory £46.00 £54.05 512M ScanFlash Secure Digital (SD) Memory £133.00 £156.28
Guest Murbank Posted June 24, 2003 Report Posted June 24, 2003 Is the Lexar card any good? I thinking of ordering one myself from a swedish store. Just thought if they are crappy or about regular. Tnx
Guest Thurstan Posted June 24, 2003 Report Posted June 24, 2003 I'm no expert, but I'm sure I read in here that they're all the same - there are no working/moving parts. I'd say even if there was a difference you would hardly even notice it.
Guest XGEOX Posted June 24, 2003 Report Posted June 24, 2003 The sliding write protect thingy is a moving part isnt it? ..It's true that some cards from different brands will use the same internals. However not all cards are the same. Cheaper cards are more likely to lose data and to physically break due to poor build quality and crappy materials. You really do get what you pay for - even with a product like this which in theory should be of a standard quality.
Guest ricmoo2003 Posted June 26, 2003 Report Posted June 26, 2003 Errm, how are they going to break it stays in the phone!, IMHO they are all the same, maybe if you jump on a cheap one it may break quicker than a Sandisk one. just get the cheapest one you can find, i have been buying this kind of thing for years and never had a problem with cheap...

I thought Sandisk were the cheap ones :? Also most if not all SD problems reported on this site are Sandisk ones :?
Guest Simon Desser Posted June 27, 2003 Report Posted June 27, 2003 I thought Sandisk were the cheap ones :? Also most if not all SD problems reported on this site are Sandisk ones :? I had nothing but trouble with my SanDisk 256mb SD card  Every so often, it would fail to write, I'd have to check it for errors using Windows XP, and this seemed to fix it for a while. Sometimes I'd have to reformat it, but the problems always came back  I took it back to the place I bought it from the other day, and the guy just smiled & swapped it, and didn't even want to see my receipt  I asked him if they had 512mb cards in stock, and he said no, and muttered something about not bothering if they're anything like this :!: implying they'd had lots of trouble :?:
Guest Simon Desser Posted June 27, 2003 Report Posted June 27, 2003 BTW, I recently bought a Lexar 512mb SD card, and it's FANTASTIC :) Using a high speed USB2 card reader it is Sooooo fast :!: Testing with a 26mb album of WMA's:- SanDisk - Copy to PC = 20seconds Lexar - Copy to PC = 6 seconds :!: San Disk - PC to Card = 60seconds Lexar - PC to Card = 7 seconds :!: I love it!
Guest XGEOX Posted June 27, 2003 Report Posted June 27, 2003 :) Well, i've just ordered the 256mb Sandisk card from ebuyer, so i'll find out soon enough :? Do most people here use card readers to read/write music and stuff instead of using the SPV and activesync?
Guest awarner [MVP] Posted June 27, 2003 Report Posted June 27, 2003 It's best to mainly because of speed, remember the SPVTanager etc is only serial via USB compaired to a card reader being a true USB.
Guest Brody Posted June 27, 2003 Report Posted June 27, 2003 I have a 256 meg Sandisk SD card and have had no problems whatsoever so far, fingers crossed it'll stay that way! :)
Guest XGEOX Posted June 27, 2003 Report Posted June 27, 2003 I have a 256 meg Sandisk SD card and have had no problems whatsoever so far, fingers crossed it'll stay that way! :) Well that makes me feel a little better  I'm just hoping my money was well spent :?
Guest Brody Posted June 27, 2003 Report Posted June 27, 2003 How much did you buy it for on ebuyer?? I got mine from e-Bay for £50 with a free RC micro racer!!
Guest XGEOX Posted June 27, 2003 Report Posted June 27, 2003 £54.33 in total But then I dont trust ebay one bit - so it makes sense to me to spend that lil bit more.
