Guest mashkhan Posted May 6, 2003 Report Posted May 6, 2003 I've got to lock down two Windows XP Standalone machines at work, unfortunately I haven't really used XP at all. Anyway having had a play all I've been able to do is create a limted user and basically delete any shortcuts I did not want them having access to. Does anyone know if there are any programs (similar to poledit for 95/NT) which will allow me to go into a bit more depth in terms of locking down what the users can/can't do. I know that I can edit the registry to acheive some of what I'm trying to do, but I'd rather do it via some kind of front end. Any help would be much appreciated :?
Guest Monolithix [MVP] Posted May 6, 2003 Report Posted May 6, 2003 Not what you want really, but you could always add the users to the Guest group? Or is that too un/restricted. I don't know of any 3rd party apps that'll do it off hand...
Guest mashkhan Posted May 6, 2003 Report Posted May 6, 2003 Cheers for the help, Basically want I wanted to do was restrict stuff like the run button, control panel stopping users from shutting the machines down etc Using the guest account was what I thought of first, but it wasn't locked down enough for the job at hand. Anyway I found the solution in the end, it's a program already on the OS gpedit.msc Couldn't find anything about it on google or the Microsoft site ;) I've got two machines with two 50" plasma screens which are to be used for powerpoint presentations and the web, what a waste!
Guest Monolithix [MVP] Posted May 6, 2003 Report Posted May 6, 2003 We have 2 52" plasma's with a 61" in the middle here, used for the web ;) What a waste. The file sounds right btw, a similar method was used on old RM boxes at my old school to limit run/shut down etc...
