NEW: Missing contacts in phonebook

Some of my contacts mysteriously disappear from my phonebook. I retrieved one of them when I "rebooted" the phone. But that happened only once. The rest of my "missing" contacts seem to have vanished forever.

is it possible that you have synchronised with your PC and updated your contacts with it? I seem to remember first time i sync'd it asked if i wanted to update pc with phone contacts OR phone with PC contacts or merge the two? try having a look at your outlook contacts on your pc & see if the missing contacts are there?
