Guest GRussell Posted May 7, 2003 Report Posted May 7, 2003 Hiya, I've been using my SPV for a while and downloaded the Orange update a whlie ago and my phone has been working with no problems. Although, last night I turned it off before I went to sleep. When I awoke in the morning my phone wouldn't start up, all I get was the canary screen. I haven't tried hard reseting it yet (as I wanted to see if there is something else I should try first. Cheers, -Graham
Guest drblow Posted May 7, 2003 Report Posted May 7, 2003 If you are at the canary screen - I don't see anything else to do except hard reset!?
Guest GRussell Posted May 7, 2003 Report Posted May 7, 2003 Hmm...It seems that I have spent to long fiddling with my phone as it won't turn on at all outside of the cradle. And I don't have that attachment bit so I can't charge it out of the cradle. As I have never done a hard reset on my phone I'm not 100% what to do, but when I turn the phone on in the cradle it starts saying "Card found" and then states "Press any key to enter boot loader". It doesn't present me with an option to press Action to enter the dialog mod". Any ideas? -Graham
Guest Monolithix [MVP] Posted May 7, 2003 Report Posted May 7, 2003 Press (and hold) the Action Key anyway :)
Guest GRussell Posted May 7, 2003 Report Posted May 7, 2003 Sorry, I should have mentioned that I have tried that. All I get is the Canary MV v0.98 screen. -Graham
Guest awarner [MVP] Posted May 7, 2003 Report Posted May 7, 2003 Make sure you have storage card in as this slows down the process. Also it's a matter of timing so it can take a few attempts to get it right.
Guest GRussell Posted May 8, 2003 Report Posted May 8, 2003 After spending 45 mins on the phone to Orange trying to get them to sort it out (and getting transfered to 4 different departments) they gave up. Apparently someone from the data team will call me back in a couple of days (!) to sort this out. All of them talked me through the steps of hard resetting the phone (as if I was an idiot), and didn't believe me when it didn't work. I'll give them a ring later today and demand a new phone, enough is enough. Unless you can offer me some last minute inspiration! -Graham :?
Guest Monolithix [MVP] Posted May 8, 2003 Report Posted May 8, 2003 Press and hold the Record and Action keys and power on. Keep Record and Action help until you enter the bootloader.
Guest GRussell Posted May 8, 2003 Report Posted May 8, 2003 Yup tried that. The problem now is that my battery is flat, and won't turn on without being in the cradle or charger being attached. Then as soon as you drop it in the cradle or attach the power lead it automatically turns on. I have tried holding down the power and record buttons whilst doing this, and still haven't had any joy. Unfortunately the battery now doesn't charge with either the cradle or normal charger attached. *Sob* -Graham
Guest Monolithix [MVP] Posted May 8, 2003 Report Posted May 8, 2003 Have you tried rerunning the update? (while in the canary screen and the phnoe in the cradle).
Guest GRussell Posted May 8, 2003 Report Posted May 8, 2003 Nice idea, but sadly it didn't work. :) I get a error message stating Error 101 : Connection Error It doesn't seem to be able to connect to the computer, although it does state USB at the bottom of the canary screen instead of Serial when it is in it's cradle, so I guess something is working on the phone if it can detect that. *Sniff* it's dead isn't it? -Graham
Guest Monolithix [MVP] Posted May 8, 2003 Report Posted May 8, 2003 Last resort, have you tried rerunning the update on another PC?
Guest GRussell Posted May 8, 2003 Report Posted May 8, 2003 I have just tried running the update on another computer. It went through the process correctly, erasing and then updating. Sadly when I turned the phone back on it still had the same problem. Time to ring Orange... Thanks for your help -Graham
Guest GRussell Posted May 8, 2003 Report Posted May 8, 2003 Grr....This is getting silly! Apparently Orange will only send a replacement phone if the current one is faulty. Sadly they weren't sure if mine is actually broken, so she had to log a request for another team to have a look (which will take up to 3 days) before they will send me a new phone. *Queue uncontrollable sobbing* -Graham
Guest GRussell Posted May 13, 2003 Report Posted May 13, 2003 I'm begining to get so fed up with Orange I can tell you. Having been with Orange for at least 4 years, I have never had so much hassle trying to get a problem resolved. Having rang them 4 times now, I am still waiting to hear from their technical dept before they will send me a new phone. As they are not sure that the phone is actually faulty until they have heard from this department. Which of course is non customer facing. They can't guarantee a time when someone from this dept will look at my case, it could be 3 days (although 4 days have now passed), could be seven days, could be longer... I am very tempted to drop the phone out of the window, then get a new phone that way... -Graham
