Guest vijay555 Posted May 7, 2003 Report Posted May 7, 2003 Strange problem people: not sure exactly what i managed to boo-boo (problems seems to have occurred spontaneously), but basically now whenever activesync tries to connect to the phone the PC resets. It doesn't bluescreen, or hang, it just hardware resets and reboots. On startup windows XP says it recovered from a serious error, giving an error code that indicates driver issues. ok: Have manually and automatically deleted activesync and usb htc cradle drivers (from hardrive and registry) Have re-installed driver and activesync, have tried changing usb ports. When activesync is shutdown, and cradle and phone are first plugged in, XP correctly discovers and installs drivers for the HTC Cradle. Sits there perfectly fine, hardware installed correctly in Device Manager. However, when i load up activesync, and drop the phone on the cradle, it will "ping ping", and _very_ briefly turn green and say connecting, and then crash out and reboot. I don't see how it's a driver issue, since the cradle is being installed fine. I think it may be profile/partnership related, since it's only when activesync connects that it crashes. Any thoughts anyone? Additionally, just in case, can someone tell me what entries you have in the registry, Local Machine, Ident settings. Thanks! V
Guest Monolithix [MVP] Posted May 7, 2003 Report Posted May 7, 2003 Sounds like a USB issue. Tried getting the latest drivers for your motherboard/USB card?
Guest vijay555 Posted May 7, 2003 Report Posted May 7, 2003 Yep... I don't think it is USB, as the cradle itself is being discovered fine. It crashes the second activesync tries to connect to the phone. Activesync alone is fine. cradle alone is fine. Activesync+phone = crash. V
Guest Monolithix [MVP] Posted May 7, 2003 Report Posted May 7, 2003 Have you tried any other USB devices on your PC? When you plug the cradle in it isn't actually interfacing with the USB bus, just "extending" the socket...
Guest vijay555 Posted May 8, 2003 Report Posted May 8, 2003 People, can some kind soul do me a favour and search their registry for the activesync settings, and export them for me and attach here, or email to [email protected], or just copy and paste the .reg file here.. I've changed usb ports, removed and reinstalled usb drivers, activesync and all related, but activesync itself is crashing whenever either my ipaq or smartphone try to connect to activesync. the devices themselves are fine, they're recognised by XP and i can usbterm fine, so it's definitely Activesync causing a complete crash. Only alternative is to re-install XP from fresh :) I think, for some silly reason, i deleted the partnerships a while back, and now activesync won't create any at all... just crash. Ergo: someone, please, send me the registry settings containing the Partnership strings, or even the whole branch! Thanks muchly. V
Guest Monolithix [MVP] Posted May 8, 2003 Report Posted May 8, 2003 I haven't got Activesync installed here at work sorry (i'll put them up when i get home if no-one else has). Have you tried upgrading to the latest version of AS?
Guest vijay555 Posted May 8, 2003 Report Posted May 8, 2003 Cheers Mono. Yep, tried removing all activesync registry entries, wince entries, htc drivers/inf files, re-installing 3.6 and fresh installing 3.7. Tried hard resetting phone, but same issue, so definitely active sync (as i said, i can usb term no prob) I've only got access to one pc at home, work doesn't let me install hardware :) Seriously tho, tis a real bugger problem. only way to transfer files right now is thru SD, but now i can't decertify because i can't passthrough (i've got not GPRS) Sigh. if it ain't broke, don't fix it, is what i've learnt! V
Guest psykoptic Posted July 28, 2004 Report Posted July 28, 2004 um... I've got the same problem. Its intermitent, and i've not tried a lot to fix it. I thought maybe either maybe the connectors on my phone or cable had dust in them and it was shorting something causing Windows to die. Like yourself vijay its an extreme terminal error, the computer just does turns off and restarts basically. Although it is happening more often. I'm running WinXP with the latest version of Activesync (3.7.1) and XP Pro, fully patched using an E200. I've no idea what it could be.... Except, and its a long shot. - i had an old SPV and I sold it on through ebay. I'm not entirely convinced that I sold my old power supply to the purchaser, he might have my newer E200 one. I don't know if they are different or not. They *looked* exactly the same, but that doesn't mean anything. And like I say, I don't know for sure if the power supplies were swapped. Maybe some sort of voltage difference? or am i just clutching at straws? did you ever resolve your problem?
Guest vijay555 Posted July 29, 2004 Report Posted July 29, 2004 hi psykoptic - i'm afraid I really don't rememebr how this issue ever got fixed. I might suggest trying everything (if anything!) i mentioned in the thread, and worst case, getting a copy of someone's registry that works and splicing in the relevant parts. I hadn't actually thought about that crashing for a long while - must have re-installed windows or something at some point, because it works ok now. I very much doubt it's a power issue because I'm using a modified USB cradle (i and others describe the procedure - you shouldn't really need to use the power adaptor at all now!) and I have no crashing problems at all now. I remember it being incredibly frustrating tho!
