Guest youngerpants Posted May 7, 2003 Report Posted May 7, 2003 Guys & Gals, My company in its un-ending wisdom has asked me to look into our web site and see how it can be improved. However, I aint really a web person. Can you peeps have a look and give your comments (constructive or otherwise  ) In my sig... Many thanks in advance (I have no idea what to do! next they'll ask me to code it!!!!)
Guest Richie M Posted May 7, 2003 Report Posted May 7, 2003 Er the only thing i'd say is "Information overload", i think your main page should be reduced down, it looks to "busy".
Guest ClintEastman Posted May 7, 2003 Report Posted May 7, 2003 <OBJECT classid="clsid:D27CDB6E-AE6D-11cf-96B8-444553540000" codebase="http://download.macromedia.com/pub/shockwave/cabs/flash/swflash.cab#version=6,0,0,0" WIDTH="100%" HEIGHT="100%" id="Splash05" ALIGN=""> <PARAM NAME=movie VALUE="/Filestore/CPM/Splash05.swf"><PARAM NAME=quality VALUE=high> <PARAM NAME=scale VALUE=exactfit> <PARAM NAME=bgcolor VALUE=#FFFFFF> <EMBED src="/Filestore/CPM/Splash05.swf" quality=high scale=exactfit bgcolor=#FFFFFF WIDTH="100%" HEIGHT="100%" NAME="Splash05" ALIGN="center" TYPE="application/x-shockwave-flash" PLUGINSPAGE="http://www.macromedia.com/go/getflashplayer"></EMBED> </OBJECT> You might want to drop the "scale=exactfit". also publish it as flash5 and change "...swflash.cab#version=6,0,0,0" to "...swflash.cab#version=5,0,0,0". :) Oh and what framerate is that running at?
Guest Will Posted May 7, 2003 Report Posted May 7, 2003 hmm is it because they checked their web logs, and you have the most time online :) - hope they don't notice it's 90% modaco.com :? i agree first page too complex. also after looking about for 20 secs, i still could not see EXACTLY what the company does.. If i was surfing for a client, i'd go back to google! Depends on the requirements of the site, is it for existing clients, new clients or merely for recruitment!! Will
Guest youngerpants Posted May 7, 2003 Report Posted May 7, 2003 I thought the first page was a tad complex also, but we have to mention all our european offices, so there isn't too much I can do about that. However, I agree that we are heavy on "corporate image" (to quote the director who passed this onto me) and light on information The site is currently used for recruitment (we have a large recruitment dept... 5000 temp staff working in the field in the UK alone) and for existing customers (there are a few hidden extranet pages withing the structure). However, we would like to use it to generate new business also. Google searches is the first thing I'd like to look at. We get first place if someone searches for the company name, which is no good for new business. We really need to get our ranking up for searches like "field marketing UK" Clint, what difference would it make if I were to publish as flash 5 instead of 6?
Guest gradiation Posted May 7, 2003 Report Posted May 7, 2003 You might aswell export the flash as flash 4 seeing as it's not doing anything extensive, that way you'll have a wider audience (for those people that still haven't updated there flash plugin). As someone else said, don't make it scale to fit, and i'd also think about structuring the rest of your content, seems a bit much wall to wall content. Make it so there is some white space on at least one of the sides, then people don't think there is as much to read. Your logo top right seems weird, it looks like the background has wrapped, cos there is a distinct break, maybe continue the red bar over, or maybe move the whole column to the left (most business sites follow this format). Other than a few structural elements, i don't think it's that bad. i've definatley seen worse. Hope this helps.
