Guest fixit Posted May 7, 2003 Report Posted May 7, 2003 Has anyone noticed that when you happen to draw an ace out of the deck, all too regularly it is immediately followed by a two and often a three or four as well? If the deck is supposedly random (shuffled) then how can this be possible? Surely wrong?
Guest Gorskar Posted May 7, 2003 Report Posted May 7, 2003 Never noticed that myself. I'll keep an eye out next time.
Guest spacecowboy6982 Posted May 7, 2003 Report Posted May 7, 2003 Er...i get that all the time lol - stupid buggy thing - what i wanna know is why pinball wasnt put on the SPV - god that was cool !
Guest fixit Posted May 7, 2003 Report Posted May 7, 2003 What are you saying SpaceCowboy - have you noticed this as well?
Guest Neil Enns (MS) Posted May 10, 2003 Report Posted May 10, 2003 When we were developing Smartphone 2002 we actually had a bug in our bug database that said solitaire was un-winnable on Smartphone. It took months before someone actually won a game to prove the bug wrong. :) The code for the cards and whatnot is exactly the same as on Pocket PC, so there's nothing special in how the cards are drawn. It really is random. And the Pocket PC code is based on the desktop code, which is floating around on the net somewhere if you search for it.
Guest bosshogg Posted May 10, 2003 Report Posted May 10, 2003 Heh, I can just imagine BillG walking into the Smartphone QA dept, only to find the whole team playing Solitaire... :)
Guest Shuflie Posted May 10, 2003 Report Posted May 10, 2003 I've noticed something wierd about solitare when you win a game. As the cards are spinning down the screen if you hit the right softkey and select draw you can then use the left softkey to keep drawing cards and your score goes down. I was really bored one day and tried to see what would happen if you managed to get the score down to 0 and kept on drawing more cards, to save anyone else the trouble of doing this don't bother, it just stays at 0. On the subject of solitare scores, what is your highest score? I managed 705 once although it is usually around 660 or so.
Guest mike-oh Posted May 11, 2003 Report Posted May 11, 2003 fixit i agree entirely with you. There does seem to be something wrong, cards in the deck seem to be too organised too often for it to be random. I've often noticed say 5 6 7 8 of the same suit come out of the deck. And a similar pattern emerges say 90% of the time i play it. I don't play the pc version so i can't comment on that.
Guest simonastro Posted May 11, 2003 Report Posted May 11, 2003 Being a pc solitaire addict I find the game just too slow on spv. It would help if there were the hot keys to send the cards up. And vegas rules would be far more exciting. x
Guest mike-oh Posted May 11, 2003 Report Posted May 11, 2003 pushing the up key will automaticaly put the cards up to the top. Usually you can push it without having to select the card and it will just put the next possible card up to the top. sometimes it needs a prompt.pushing the up key will automaticaly put the cards up to the top. Guest youngerpants Posted May 12, 2003 Report Posted May 12, 2003 if memory serves, there is a cheat in solitaire on the PC, something like hold dow ctrl + alt + F1 (or something) so that it only draws 1 card at a time instead of 3. I wonder if anything has been done to the smartphone version

Guest youngerpants Posted May 12, 2003 Report Posted May 12, 2003 nah, the option just makes it 1 card all the time, the cheat means you can pull off 1 card at a time during a 3 card game

That may be, but I'm not much of a developer so I don't see much to be gained from poking around in the code. But this issue definitely exists, I play Solitaire all the time and see this a ridiculous amount. Any chance we could get this shifted to Bugtrack? Not that I have much hope of MS fixing it....
Guest Monolithix [MVP] Posted May 14, 2003 Report Posted May 14, 2003 Move to Bugtrack as requested....
