The SMART Amazing Phone on a network other than SMART...

I think it is not really a question as to which service you use... SMART or Globe, but if you are really interested in the features of the SAP and how it can really be used in the corporate world, then SMART Communications is the perfect match for the SMART Amazing Phone.

The SMART Amazing Phone comes with ActionEngine and ActionBackup. Now has anyone here actaully tried running ActionEngine on a SIM other than SMART's?

How about the MMIS solution for corporate accounts offered by SMART? How about the OTA updates? and OTA synchronization?

Obviously you won't be able to use a personalized SMART Money card's added features if you are not using a SMART SIM... (which, BTW, I'm reviewing for www.ppcw.net)

How about the triple DES ecrypted text messaging offered by SMART?

I guess the question should be... What can you do with a SMART Amazing Phone when used on a SMART network... are you losing much if you use it on a different network?

Something to think about...

Hi Carlo. Where can I find these ActionEngine and ActionBackup that came with the SAP?

And what is this OTA updates and OTA synchronization all about?

Thanks for the info...

Hi Dino,

I think only the latest units have ActionEngine built-in.

It also has the backup feature which I guess works over the air...

Well, let me rephrase it... That didn't come out quite right. What is it that you end up missing if you don't use SMART's system with your SMP2002...

Well, with any phone that is...

If you get the new accounts, you must have gotten the SMART Money as well. Also behind all this is a technology far more advanced than other networks... It's called Private Text... a triple-DES encrypted text messaging service, actually the same system used for SMART Money...

Just imagine doing a purchase with your personalized SMART Money card (Electronic Mastercard) and you receive a confirmation of your purchase via SMS everytime you use it. It's supposed to be as good as an official receipt.

IMO, it depends pa rin if these features are important for you or not. I can live without this Smart Money and Action Engine so using either a Globe or Smart doesnt really matter for me (although I use Smart-only for my Smartphone). Same as the Smart Portal on the default homescreen, its of no use for me thats why I didnt bother to change my theme/skin to get rid of it.

Different strokes for different folks :)

Could sombody help me:

I have configured my SAP to access wap sites and actually browsing some of them. I can access Yahoo and other wap site but still can't go to globe wap site. Have tried all the settings described on this forum but they all seems not working. I think there is a need to update the setting list to reflect the most current working configuration for Globe.

thank you very much...

Use wsp://www.globe.com.ph/globe.wmlc

HTTP uses APN internet.globe.com.ph (HTML and WML pages)

WSP uses APN www.globe.com.ph (WML pages)

Try to access WAP (WML pages) using wsp:// first. If it fails then use http://.

Wireless Session Protocol is the better option.

Hope this helps.

You already have HTTP working correctly with the Internet Connection and APN internet.globe.com.ph.

Create GPRS connection for HTTP protocol

Description: Globe GPRS

Connects to: The Internet

Access point: internet.globe.com.ph

User name: (blank)

Password: (blank)

Primary DNS: 203.127.225.10

Secondary DNS: 203.127.225.11

IP address: (blank)

The WAP connection is for WSP (Wireless Session Protocol) and needs both a proxy and GPRS connection with APN www.globe.com.ph.

Create proxy connection

Description: Globe WAP proxy

Connects from: The Internet

Connects to: WAP network

Proxy (name:port): 203.177.42.214

Type: WAP

Username: blank

Password: blank

Create GPRS connection for WSP protocol

Description: Globe WAP

Connects to: The Internet

Access point: www.globe.com.ph

User name: (blank)

Password: (blank)

Primary DNS: 0.0.0.0

Secondary DNS: 0.0.0.0

IP address: (blank)

In data conenctions

Internet connection = Globe GPRS (for HTML and WML pages using HTTP)

WAP connection = Globe WAP (for WML pages using WSP)

In internet explorer you must activate 'auto detect settings' to select between HTTP and WSP protocols.

Then try to access wsp://www.google.com/wml or wsp://www.globe.com.ph/globe.wmlc in explorer.

IF you can access above sites then try Setting up MMS using the WAP connection.

Goto Settings - accessories - MMS setup.

Change header to Globe WAP

IP address: 192.40.100.20

Port : 9201

Mmsc Address: http://192.40.100.22:10021/mmsc
