Guest Sponte Posted May 8, 2003 Report Posted May 8, 2003 Morning I've searched this forum, but I can't solve my problem. I can't reach the menu, to Hard Reset my SPV. After doing the Voice-Power-button-start-up, and pressing the Action bar, I only get one option "Press any key to enter boot loader", but not the "Press action button to enter diag mod". I've tried with or without the sd-card, and a dozen of key combinations - No Luck I always end with the Canary MV v0.98 mode..! Grrr.... Is there another way to reach the menu. Pleaze help TIA /Sponte
Guest martin Posted May 8, 2003 Report Posted May 8, 2003 After doing the Voice-Power-button-start-up, and pressing the Action bar, I only get one option "Press any key to enter boot loader", but not the "Press action button to enter diag mod". When you see "Press any key to enter boot loader", press the action key and keep it pressed down until the diag screen comes up. You will also see that there is no exit option in the bootloader menu. To exit the diags menu or the canary screen, keep the power button pressed until phone reboots (this takes a little while to happen).
Guest Sponte Posted May 8, 2003 Report Posted May 8, 2003 Thanks U for trying... It won't help. Only displays: Card Found, then "Press any key to enter boot loader" and I press the action key, but even if I press and hold down or just tapping the key it just goes straight to the F****** Canary mode. :?: /Sponte
Guest Monolithix [MVP] Posted May 8, 2003 Report Posted May 8, 2003 Try pressing and holding Record and Action, then powering on. Keep Record and Action pressed until you enter the bootloader...
Guest Sponte Posted May 8, 2003 Report Posted May 8, 2003 I have tried your option, Monolithix But same result, no response, just shows Card Found - Press any key to enter bootloader - then straight to Canary-you-know-what.... Am I the dumbest person or what... /Sponte
Guest AJH Posted May 8, 2003 Report Posted May 8, 2003 Believe it or not, your problem is caused by the plastic blank being in the memory card socket. I was just about to shred my SPV when I spotted this tip elsewhere on this site.
Guest awarner [MVP] Posted May 8, 2003 Report Posted May 8, 2003 It's all a matter of timing, it can take quite a few attempts to get it right.
Guest Sponte Posted May 8, 2003 Report Posted May 8, 2003 AJH -> Could you please explain what is "plastic blank being in the memory card socket" and how to overcome the problem, or guide me to solve the problem Thanks  /Sponte
Guest AJH Posted May 8, 2003 Report Posted May 8, 2003 Left hand side, below the buttons, is the SD/MMC slot. This is fitted with a plastic blank when supplied. It is this balnk that must be removed prior to reset. There is a mechanical sensor that is activated by any card in this slot, including an inert lump of grey plastic. Good luck. Al
Guest awarner [MVP] Posted May 8, 2003 Report Posted May 8, 2003 Believe it or not, your problem is caused by the plastic blank being in the memory card socket. So the question is.. do you have a storage card in the phone when you are trying to do the reset? You should have a storage card in the slot and not the packaging blank that comes with the phone as posted above.
Guest Sponte Posted May 8, 2003 Report Posted May 8, 2003 AJH - > Do I have to open the the phone or can I fix it without open it. /Sponte :)
Guest Sponte Posted May 8, 2003 Report Posted May 8, 2003 Yes there is a SD-card in the slot, when I try to hard reset... I've tried all solutions (as far as I know) :? /Sponte
Guest jelicano Posted May 9, 2003 Report Posted May 9, 2003 I was having the same problem with my Tanager, I know I've done a hard reset before and suddenly I couldn't... Thanks for the tip, I removed the DUMMY SDCard from my phone and VOILA .. yipee kaye... Thanks..
Guest Sponte Posted May 9, 2003 Report Posted May 9, 2003 Jelicano -> I bought my phone "second hand" - What is DUMMY SD-CARD I guess that it's just a piece of plastic thats inserted in the card reader socket.. or what  /Sponte
Guest awarner [MVP] Posted May 9, 2003 Report Posted May 9, 2003 I guess that it's just a piece of plastic thats inserted in the card reader socket Yes that is exactly what it is :) It's a piece of packaging that comes with the phone to help protect the SD slot.
Guest Sponte Posted May 9, 2003 Report Posted May 9, 2003 Thank you for your help and patience, I'll hope that I some day succeed in resetting my SPV. Right now I'm stuck - Gotta practice my timing :) /Sponte
