Guest ClintEastman Posted May 8, 2003 Report Posted May 8, 2003 Yes, the released version is stripped down quite a bit for size issues on the SVP. This is because of how large the game was in comparison to other SVP titles. There aren't any concrete plans of doing an SVP version with all of the features of the PPC version; but I wouldnt count it out. In fact, aside from the missing race and missions; everything can be added onto the SVP version using the original files from the PPC version (including custom levels, sounds, music, texts etc.). It wouldnt take much work to put everything back in, its just a matter of size (as far as I know). I'll give you a more definitive answer as soon as I can.Hello Guys, I plan to release other versions in the members area with more levels and sounds and music and such. The current version's limited because we had to squeeze everything into one tiny megabyte of CAB - which is rather small compared to the 4 megabytes of PPC CAB. As it is, I'm happy that we could preserve this much of the game. Missions and network multiplayer for SPV might happen later on, but I think more levels, improved controls, special SPV features (overview map, etc) should be done first. Cheers, Peter Excuse me for my bad French, I am stupid. Now, it is possible to add other levels to the play by http://snails.pocketmatrix.com/ and to follow the instructions there. Each of the 25 weapons is included in the version of smartphone. But, if you wish more, the others weapons can be found here: http://pdamill.com/~kyle/ Ajouter missions is very possible, because I want it certainly available. GPRS multiplayer, I do not know, but I will try to discover.
Guest ClintEastman Posted May 8, 2003 Report Posted May 8, 2003 Or you could make your own levels..... http://forums.pocketmatrix.com/viewtopic.php?t=4702 :)
Guest Monolithix [MVP] Posted May 8, 2003 Report Posted May 8, 2003 Wicked, so we can create custom levels! Edit bah, beat me to it hehe :)
Guest ClintEastman Posted May 8, 2003 Report Posted May 8, 2003 Yep, so who's the first to make a MoDaCo level? :) :( :D
Guest Scarfman007 Posted May 8, 2003 Report Posted May 8, 2003 Hi, I downloaded news.zip from http://snails.pocketmatrix.com/ (News York, on the page 2) and unzipped it into the main dir of Snails (Storage CardProgram FilesGamesSnails), but it does not appear in the level selection screen? Has anyone else managed to get extra levels to work on the SPV version? I also tried it with the Snails: Official Holidays Pack (page 5) and followed the instructions for Snails version 1.7 or above and again nothing happened. Great to hear missions and other features are being planned though :) ! Cheers, Scarfman
Guest ClintEastman Posted May 8, 2003 Report Posted May 8, 2003 Not tried it yet (At work).... You could try asking here.... http://forums.pocketmatrix.com/viewtopic.php?t=10836 Although it might take a while for a reply :)
Guest ClintEastman Posted May 8, 2003 Report Posted May 8, 2003 Did you follow these instructions? Though it varies from level to level, installing of user levels is pretty much the same; you unzip the files, read the Readme file (not a must, but recommended as it gives some info on the level and gives specific installing instructions), and then you do one of the following. If the level info is contained in a .lev file (all current levels should be), just copy that and all the .zbm files onto your device in your Snails folder, preferably in an "addon" folder. If you are running a version of Snails below v1.7 or the level to be installed is old, then the info will be in a levels.dat file or an append.dat file. Just in case you're wondering what this whole deal with the .dat files and .lev files is, let me explain. On all versions of Snails before v1.7 (namely, 1.5 and 1.6), the information for all the levels was stored in a file called levels.dat. In order to add a custom level, you had to copy the creator's modified levels.dat file onto your device, overwriting the original. As you can imagine, this caused some problems. What if people wanted to install multiple levels? It could cause a lot of trouble. Therefore, in version 1.7 of Snails, a new level system was integrated. Each level had its own information stored in a .lev file. When prompted for a list of levels, Snails would search the Snails folder and all its sub-directories for .lev files, and then it would load the information contained in those. Though it has not been utilised yet except by the Snails developers, it offers a lot of potential by making it easier to make your own levels. On versions of Snails prior to 1.7, copy levels.dat that to your device along with the .zbm files as previously mentioned. If the level information is contained in a file called "append.dat" or something similar, add that to your device’s level.dat file and copy it to your device with the .zbm files, as stated above. For levels contained in the levels.dat file or an append.dat file in version 1.7 or above, open up the included levels.dat and scroll to the bottom. The very last level there should be the custom level. Copy that text and paste it into a new file, called *.lev, where * is the level’s internal name. For append.dat files, just rename them to .lev
Guest Monolithix [MVP] Posted May 8, 2003 Report Posted May 8, 2003 Levels seem to have different extensions in SP Snails...?
Guest Scarfman007 Posted May 8, 2003 Report Posted May 8, 2003 I tried the following instructions that came with the Official Holidays Pack: ::::::::: SNAILS 1.7 (or above) ::::::::: 1.) Unzip these files into the MAIN Snails folder, ensuring the directory structure remains intact. 2.) Run Snails and it will automatically compile a list of all valid levels without further modification.Although I dragged the files from winzip straight onto the main Snails dir window (thru' Activesync), so directory structure was not kept (however I recreated it). For the News York level the following instructions do not apply: On versions of Snails prior to 1.7, copy levels.dat that to your device along with the .zbm files as previously mentioned. If the level information is contained in a file called "append.dat" or something similar, add that to your device’s level.dat file and copy it to your device with the .zbm files, as stated above. As there are simply 4 .zbm files and one level file. I simply copied them into the Snails main dir (and then tried after copying them into a Levels folder I created). Scarfman Chris
Guest Scarfman007 Posted May 8, 2003 Report Posted May 8, 2003 There is something interesting in 'pages.def': It appears that for every menu screen in the game is defined by a HTML-style system, the above section being the bit that related to choosing a level. Since there is no option for any new levels I'm guessing that maybe we have to add our own? .zbm is the picture format used, *_sm.zbm are simply the preview pictures of each game, VALUE seems to set the actual game engine to the level required, but how do we add extra level IDs? This is just guessing.. of course I could just be being dumb, but I don't think Snails SP works the same with levels as PPC version... Scarfman
Guest ClintEastman Posted May 8, 2003 Report Posted May 8, 2003 This is just guessing.. of course I could just be being dumb, but I don't think Snails SP works the same with levels as PPC version... Scarfman My guess is you just need to increment the value EG 5,6,7. The first post in the tread has quotes for the writers, and they say its the same.
Guest Dave DR Posted May 8, 2003 Report Posted May 8, 2003 hmmm thats one way of crashing snails... changed the line, and when you get to the page, it kills it....
Guest ClintEastman Posted May 8, 2003 Report Posted May 8, 2003 New weapons paks kill snails too (no the game). :)
Guest Monolithix [MVP] Posted May 8, 2003 Report Posted May 8, 2003 It looks like this version has a compiled (yes, compiled) .dat file for each level... :)
Guest Dave DR Posted May 9, 2003 Report Posted May 9, 2003 well thats an arse! i had writen the installation files for creating Cab files so new skins could have been installed over the air... :)
Guest madu Posted May 9, 2003 Report Posted May 9, 2003 So it doesn't seem to work right?? BTW, surely the bitmaps are for PPC version and are larger in size/>
Guest ClintEastman Posted May 9, 2003 Report Posted May 9, 2003 Looking into it. Apparently, the SPV version doesnt like to be messed with or something.... We'll have a solution soon. :) :(
Guest axe Posted May 19, 2003 Report Posted May 19, 2003 Any news on this subject ? I bought snails expecting more levels and feel bummed out not that it seems very un-editable
Guest ClintEastman Posted May 19, 2003 Report Posted May 19, 2003 This is the tread you need to be in mate. :) http://smartphone.modaco.com/viewtopic.php...der=asc&start=0
