Guest bdmoore Posted May 9, 2003 Report Posted May 9, 2003 I got to work this morning, checked my SPV (which for the last 4 months has been working perfectly!!!) and it had crashed. :) I had to take the battery off to reset it, but then it froze again when rebooted on the Enter PIN screen. Since then I've done about 4/5 hard resets but every time it freezes either on the Enter PIN screen or just before (showing half of the homescreen and half of the Smartphone 2002 boot screen). I've also tried booting without the sim to see if that's causing the problems but it freezes on the screen that says there's no sim in the phone!!  Any ideas anyone?? Or is it time I made a claim and got a new phone??
Guest awarner [MVP] Posted May 9, 2003 Report Posted May 9, 2003 Apart from asking for a replacement phone, have you tried your SIM in another phone could that be your problem? Just a guess but worth a try.
Guest bdmoore Posted May 9, 2003 Report Posted May 9, 2003 Yeah I tried the SIM in another phone and it worked fine. Tried another SIM in my phone and got the same problem. :) I've spoken to O and they're waiting for a response from their Tech Support area before they can authorise a replacement, and they said it could take up to 72 hours to get that authorisation, so no phone until next week for me
Guest awarner [MVP] Posted May 9, 2003 Report Posted May 9, 2003 If you had Orange Customer Care you would have a replacement within 24 hours. I know it's a bit late now but it's woth remembering it for future referance.
Guest bdmoore Posted May 9, 2003 Report Posted May 9, 2003 I have got Orange Care, but what they're saying is the replacement should be with me within 24 hours of them authorising it, and it's the authorisation from Tech Support that can take up to 72 hours because it's not a fault that's already on their list!!
Guest Chris b.a.r.f. Posted May 9, 2003 Report Posted May 9, 2003 Possible solution without resorting to a replacement phone: reinstall the latest UK update. This rewrites all the data in the SPV's ROM so this should solve your problem. If it still does it, download the update again, then reinstall as normal. HTH
Guest bdmoore Posted May 9, 2003 Report Posted May 9, 2003 Chris > Thanks for the idea. Just tried to re-install the update, but the program can't connect cos the SPV is crashing before ActiveSync can connect to it :) Just have to wait for O to approve my replacement!!
Guest Chris b.a.r.f. Posted May 9, 2003 Report Posted May 9, 2003 Oof, that's a nasty one :) Another potential solution: before reinstalling the update, use USBterm to downgrade your bootloader version [1] (to 0.93, for example) - USBterm doesn't use ActiveSync - AFAIR, it requires that you disable wcsecomm bofore you start it. The problem with the later updates is that the USB drivers are loaded _client-side_ as the last step in the boot process, which is especially annoying when tryijng to de-cert the "manual" way - quite how much bootloader has to do with the order in which drivers are started I don't know, but it might be worth a try. Otherwise, it seems that you're at the mercy of Orange and the postal service....
Guest bdmoore Posted May 9, 2003 Report Posted May 9, 2003 Worth a try!! One problem tho - doesn't it require an SD card reader to copy the bootloader to an SD card? I've only got the SPV, no reader... :)
Guest bdmoore Posted May 10, 2003 Report Posted May 10, 2003 Woohoo! Tried another hard reset (about number 20!) and my phone finally came back to life! :) It's good to be back :(
