Guest mataus ros Posted May 9, 2003 Report Posted May 9, 2003 Hello :) I seem to be having real problems in transferring music on to my SPV from wMP. The media player says that both the memory card and the smartphone have no space left, even though the phone is brand new and I haven't downloaded anything on to it! I have an 8mg SD storage card and I have made sure that there is nothing else (apart from the necessary applications) on there. Please help!
Guest deejayry Posted May 9, 2003 Report Posted May 9, 2003 If its the orange 8mb card, the first hing you should do is remove all the demo software that orange put on it, and store it in a sfe place on your pc. this will leave you with about 6.4mb of free storage card space, which is enough for between 1 and 3 mp3 files depending on size. If you want to fit more mp3's you need to get a bigger SD (secure digital card) The 8mb card is fine for storing photo's and small stuff, but not much use when it comes to mp3 or long videos. I'm still stuck with the standard 8mb card, but plan to get a 256mb card soon, only thing is secure digital card dont come cheap :)
Guest jim80b Posted May 9, 2003 Report Posted May 9, 2003 hey order over ebay... i got mine (256) for 50 quid, oh and wm9 is not the best for transfering music. use activesynce try reencoding mp3's to wma's you can get more on the card that way, and 64kb wma's are ok quality on the phone.
Guest vijay555 Posted May 9, 2003 Report Posted May 9, 2003 jim80b and anyone else: i also bought SD card 256mb for £50 from ebay. However, as you may have noted in another post, my spv just randomly deleted a load of files from the card. Someone on the-dvd-forums remarked that these Sandisk cards (is that what u've got?) might have been a defective batch. just wondering if it's the card, not the phone.Sandisk is a very reliable make, so can't believe it's the card.. But on topic: the 8mb is fine just for sotware, keeping day to day programs etc on. However, get a bigger card so u can watch films and listen to music properly! V
Guest mataus ros Posted May 9, 2003 Report Posted May 9, 2003 Thanks guys, Thats really helpfull. I thought I might need a bigger card and £50 ain't that bad really Take it easy 8)
Guest awarner [MVP] Posted May 9, 2003 Report Posted May 9, 2003 Sandisk is a very reliable make, so can't believe it's the card.. Unless you have a Scandisk MMC then they are not SPV friendly :( I only know of two other reports of SD scandisk cards not not working on the phone. Anyway back ontopic :) with an 8MB card you only have just over 6MB of usable storage so with your apps etc already loaded you may not have enough space. How big is the wmp file and what format is it?
Guest mataus ros Posted May 9, 2003 Report Posted May 9, 2003 Sorry to sound really stupid but what files can I remove for the phone to still be able to work? I only want a few cheewnz to brighten up my journey home!
Guest vijay555 Posted May 9, 2003 Report Posted May 9, 2003 not really worth removing anything from the phone. u should have the sd card that came with the phone. u cld get a couple of mp3s on there, or use smartamp and stick a squillion midi tunes etc on there (or even the phone! they're very small...) However, sd cards ain't so steep. Bite the bullet and get full use from ur phone! V
Guest awarner [MVP] Posted May 9, 2003 Report Posted May 9, 2003 As you are new to the site so I presume you are also new to the phone as well, so the best advice I can give is... Do not remove anything from the phone as you may well give yourself more problems :? also get yourself a bigger storage card, at least 128MB but preferably 256MB as 8MB is really not worth having.
