Guest vijay555 Posted May 9, 2003 Report Posted May 9, 2003 People, was just playing around with phone... i'm using a 256mb sd card, relatively full of cabs and installed files etc. Was playing around with smart explorer, and then quit. Reloaded, and noticed that the vast majority of the files on the SD card had disappeared. Power downed, re-inserted card, refreshed explorer, tried loading files, but nothing. most files are all gone. Curiously a random scattering of files are still on there, but no particular reason why they shld be there and the others not. Anyone ever had spontaneous combustion of files? Quite worrying, lost many photos etc... V
Guest madu Posted May 9, 2003 Report Posted May 9, 2003 I had. It is scaring... It seems that SD just randomly looses some of the memory chips... Until reformated and then it's full capacity and working fine again. I had most files in 'Program Files-----' erased. That would be within a ubfolder in ProgFiles. Randomly. No particular reason. Very sad and no reason for that to happen.. :)
Guest madu Posted May 9, 2003 Report Posted May 9, 2003 PS: I have a SanDisk 256 ordered from ValueMedia///
Guest vijay555 Posted May 9, 2003 Report Posted May 9, 2003 Hmm, Sandisk 256mb: me too, ordered off ebay. someone suggested elsewhere that it's possible that the ones on ebay might have been slightly dodgy. if so, i'll return it to sandisk and get a replacement. back of sandisk says "ar0304lr -taiwan" for reference
Guest awarner [MVP] Posted May 9, 2003 Report Posted May 9, 2003 Does seem strange that all storage card problems reported are always Scandisk :? For future referance, as long as you do not try and save anything else on the card, data recovery software like Final Data may be able to recover the deleted files.
Guest madu Posted May 9, 2003 Report Posted May 9, 2003 Mine is 0209LR - Taiwan It seems like the file system (file register/directory tree?) corrupts and it does not see the files, but the data is there, so maybe you can do that undelete thing. Also, I had a simiar problem with 32MB Hitachi MMC. I just had one 29MB file on the card and once apon a time... It just stopped playing after 15-20min of the track (single 60min liveset). The file was there, but it could not see the other half of it. Then I deleted the file and realised that it only has 16MB free and nothing on the card. It was before TaskMan with SD Format was released and when it was and I formatted my MMC it got back to seeing all 32MB of space... Don't ask why!! :)
Guest GHI Posted June 12, 2003 Report Posted June 12, 2003 This also just happened to me - Luckily it worked again after a reset..
Guest madu Posted June 12, 2003 Report Posted June 12, 2003 What you are refering to is another problem mate, it's when your SPV stops seeing the card for some strange reason... Happened to me too. Ususally after running WMP, there's another thread on this somewhere..Reinserting card usualy sorts it
