Guest panda Posted May 10, 2003 Report Posted May 10, 2003 I am new to the SPV and are trying to access First Direct WAP banking using it. First Direct say they don't support the SPV & Orange say I have to go through the 'O2 gateway'. Is there anyone who has managed to do this, if so, how?
Guest martin Posted May 10, 2003 Report Posted May 10, 2003 I've managed to connect to Abbey National secure pages but I don't seem to be able to connect to first direct or Halifax. :) I'll have a play about and see if I can get it work.
Guest martin Posted May 11, 2003 Report Posted May 11, 2003 I am new to the SPV and are trying to access First Direct WAP banking using it. First Direct say they don't support the SPV & Orange say I have to go through the 'O2 gateway'. Is there anyone who has managed to do this, if so, how? This is the first time I've tried to setup the SPV for secure pages so there may be someone who can confirm some of this. I can connect to Abbey national (secure) e-banking menu but I can't actually enter the login menu for Abbey or first direct. First Direct states that you need a WAP enabled phone with 128bit WTLS encryption so I'll have to find out what the encryption methods the SPV supports. I am using GPRS for data transfer but I have also tried the GSM dialup (with port 9203) but it didn't make much difference. We now need to know if the login works for a valid account holder. I have created the following to access secure HTML and WML pages. The properties on these pages state that protocol is Secure Hypertext Transfer. Notice that you see a gold padlock at the top of the screen when a secure connection is activated. In data connections - add new proxy Description: Secure proxy Connects from: The Internet Connects to: Secure WAP Network Proxy: 192.168.71.35 Type: HTTP Change data connection Secure WAP connection = Orange GPRS. It seems to like Orange GPRS rather than Orange WAP. It gives access to both HTML and WML seure pages so fair enough. It looks like I might be able to buy cinema tickets over a secure connection now. :) Although I have yet tried it. wsp://orange.multimedia/ (goto all channels, FILM) or http://smartphone.orange.co.uk/today (which is better for cinema bookings) wsp://wap.o2.co.uk (goto more, banks for Abbey/First Direct) If anyone finds some useful secure sites that work or manages to make payments over secure connections on an SPV- post them in.
Guest panda Posted May 11, 2003 Report Posted May 11, 2003 Orange tell me that the SPV does support 128 bit encryption so in theory I should be able to access secure sites requiring this level of security. I can get to the firstdirect WAP site via O2 but it doesn't let me in which tells me I must have the proxy connection set up wrong? Help would be appreciated. Panda
Guest martin Posted May 11, 2003 Report Posted May 11, 2003 Orange tell me that the SPV does support 128 bit encryption so in theory I should be able to access secure sites requiring this level of security So did you try creating the above settings ?
Guest panda Posted May 11, 2003 Report Posted May 11, 2003 I think I have created your settings! I have created them in a proxy connection, but how do I ensure the SPV uses these when it connect to the firstdirect site? It is still not allowing me in saying that the required level of encryption is not supported.
Guest martin Posted May 11, 2003 Report Posted May 11, 2003 Have you put 'Secure WAP connection = Orange GPRS' and set IE to auto detect settings ? If so, it should automatically change to secure. Goto the abbey account and enter the e-banking menu and it should change to a secure connection (as it does on my phone). It maybe that secure connection for e-bank login (using WTLS encrytion) is different from the secure connections elsewhere ?
Guest panda Posted May 12, 2003 Report Posted May 12, 2003 Thanks Martin - I can get onto a secure connection now (the padlock appears) however when I try to proceed it says that I don't have the required level of incryption. Orange say this is not the case, it is probably that I am only going to the site via O2, instead I have to actually go through the O2 gateway but Orange do not support the use of 3rd party WAP sites so they can't help me. Any ideas on this or am I stuck?
Guest martin Posted May 12, 2003 Report Posted May 12, 2003 I can get onto a secure connection now (the padlock appears) however when I try to proceed it says that I don't have the required level of incryption Me too. I can access secure Internet sites OK but I can't get into the logins which require 128bit WTLS encryption. I suspect these are using different encryption methods - I'll have to look into it further.
Guest mbro Posted February 20, 2004 Report Posted February 20, 2004 People tell me Mobile Banking would be one of the killerapps on any mobile phone. Since WAP however, most banks did not invest in making small screen banking apps available over (normal) HTTP. This means we're stuck sofar with WAP banking apps that seem not available for today's phones (that simply left out any support for WTLS class 2). While trying and trying... one burning question REMAINS : Do our SPV's (canary, e100, e200, etc) SUPPORT WAP 1.2.1 and WTLS class 2 ???? If only someone could answer this with a simple Yae or Nae ?? PLEEEEEASE.... :)
