Hey guys,

Im still trying to save up for a tanager since im only a hapless drone at work but where would be the best place to purchase a tanager here in the Philippines? If I get it at smart I think it costs too much and I heard that they get the units from bright point. Does anybody know if I could get the unit directly from B.P. instead ?

I myself also wanted before to buy just the unit itself without subscribing from Smart since Im already a Globe subscriber.....sad to say, you can get a Smartphone (Tanager) from Smart only...with a subsription/ contract for at least 2 years :)

Oh but I already have a smart gold post paid line they still wont sell me

just the unit? I'm still under contract with them for this line so I really

cant get another contract with them. What can I do? I really want a SPVx

I guess you'r most logical option is to get the prepaid plan which will set you back about 22,000+++

Or buy off the phone you got for free.. I think Smart has a buyout clause in the contract that makes you pay a certain amount for the phone they gave you to be freed from the 2-year contract (since generally we enter into these contracts to get a free phone right?).

Try it.

Well I tried asking them that and for 6 months of using the service I would

have to pay 14 G's to get out of the contract and the phone is just worth 7 now if im lucky. I'm even sorely tempted to get two lines right now

@fpj71: How about you sell the phone to someone else and use whatever you get to buy the SMART Amazing Phone?

Try it at Virramall greenhills, they are now selling it with or w/out prepaid kits, but be sure to look around first because the prices ranges from P16.5T- P25T, with the same package. I got mine yest for P16.5T at a shop on the center of virramall, near the entrance door fronting AB Montessori. Just make sure to check the unit, anyway people there are very accomodating.

 huh!!!! May Tanager na sa greenhills???? Open line???? How did it happen?

Sayang I should have waited so I dont need to get another line from Smart and maintain 2 lines (Globe and Smart). I was forced to subscribe with Smart just because of this phone....although I still have a contract with Globe when I bought my T8i months ago and I cant discontinue my subscription with them unless I pay some big cash :x

didnt expect the Tanager will be in the grey market....

Try this: go to globe, tell them you're going abroad for three months (i only tried 3 mos., dont know if you can ask for a longer period) and ask for a temporary suspension of your account. I tried it and they did not seem to notice i was still within the contract, i saved three months subscription.

Tthis might not be very morally upright but, these telecoms providers are also getting rich off us. Anyway, i dont think its illegal - it not disallowed in the contract.

Ive done this already since my job requires me to travel from time to time, 3-month long travels. But they only grant this request ONLY if you could present to them the requirements and proof: plane ticket and visa. So this bluff wont work if you cant produce these papers :)

16.5k sa Greenhills??? How did that happen?!

I bought mine outright for 22k 'coz I love my pre-paid# and had to sell off my Ipaq & T68 just to get this.

Galing talaga ng Pinoy! :)

If you're getting a Tanager, make sure that all pixels are in good working order (i.e. not burnt). You can do this by attaching the camera and taking a shot of a black background (I used the pants of Smart's security guard - hehe..) and viewing the picture afterwards. If you notice a few white spots on the image, try zooming in. If the white spots do not increase in size as you zoom-in, it means you have a dead pixel on your LCD. Replace right away!

I replaced the first unit Smart issued me because of this. The second one was a dandy.

This might be a tedious process for some, but at least you're sure that your Tanager's LCD is in tip-top shape. Manic ba? Hey.. whatever! ;-)

This happend to me also....I noticed the dead pixel only when I used a dark skin/theme....I have it replaced right away before my 1 month unit replacement warranty expired :)

no offense meant but i'm starting to hate the shops and service centers(kuno) in greenhills and elsewhere.they sell reconditioned units as brand new.another is,dont u think its illegal to retrieve security codes considering that the phone might be a "hot" or stolen unit?

Oh wow I'll give greenhills a try but I know they are really notorious with reconditioned units are they also selling spare access. there too? I know thats the only way they get to sell the unit for a higher price by trying to recon the unit.

Got an SPV 2 days ago from Virra mall for 18.5k (didnt find the 16k eh! sayang pero ok lang worth it pa rin). It was brand new sealed and everything... It was sim locked to smart and didn't come with the smart pre-paid but what the heck! Dali naman i open line eh... The tiangge is near the area of DEC and National bookstore. Really nice accomodating Muslims... its not on display yet though... so you have to ask... went all around greenhills looking for it... it was rare and the other stalls were selling second hand units with scratches for 19k - 25k... glad i found that store

For you guys out there wondering if it does exist in greenhills... yup it does... :)

Thanks for the info mate

Still trying to find the time to go all the way to Greenhills but it would

sure make it alot easier than having to look around the place.
