Guest viskas Posted May 12, 2003 Report Posted May 12, 2003 in certain cases I can't surf wap sites with pocket explorer. I get a reply from the server that the requested page is for wap browsers only. for example: wap.bahn.de (very useful... you find train timetable of all european countries...) or wap.tin.it any suggestion?!?
Guest Monolithix [MVP] Posted May 12, 2003 Report Posted May 12, 2003 It's because the websites try to be clever and detect the type of broswer you are using, as the SmartPhone version of PIE is HTML-enabled some WAP sites will disallow WAP access. You can try using WebWAPSelect, downloadable from my site, it works in most cases by tricking the sites into thinking you are using a t68i WAP browser, however it can be a little unreliable at times. There aren't really any other choices though :/
Guest caio1 Posted May 12, 2003 Report Posted May 12, 2003 I can't make any test now, but setting in IE options -> connections to Automatically or to WAP doesn't help? Caio
Guest martin Posted May 12, 2003 Report Posted May 12, 2003 I'm going quote myself AGAIN (sorry) so that my reply makes more sense. What we seem to have with the SPV is the following data connections 'Internet connection=' for http:// sites (both HTML and WML pages) and 'WAP connection=' for WSP:// (Wireless Session Protocol) sites which are WML pages. For the SPV, there is something than can be tried to force WML pages to be loaded over the GPRS WAP connection. On the WAP address change the http:// to wsp://. It works on some WAP sites and doesn't on others. I have tried both sites and have got the following. http://wap.bahn.de works, wsp://wap.bahn.de fails http://wap.tin.it fails, wsp://wap.tin.it works. It may be that we have to start being more selective with WAP addresses? Anybody read up on WSP protocol as its seems to cropping up more and more with WAP sites. How does WebWAPSelect work, can it be made to attempt both WSP and HTTP protocols ?
Guest Monolithix [MVP] Posted May 12, 2003 Report Posted May 12, 2003 Not entirely sure...theres an email address to the bloke that wrote it on my site...
Guest viskas Posted May 12, 2003 Report Posted May 12, 2003 thank you martin. I didn't solve the problem but it's not so important. I have been redirected to the web site again, instead of entering the wap site, but it's not so important. I can survive without wap sites! thank you for your prompt reply and attention!

Are you sure its not your settings ? Check your data for GPRS WAP connection and make sure that you have Connects to: The internet (not connects to WAP network). In Data Connections 'WAP Network' should then point to this GPRS WAP connection. In IE explorer 'auto detect' should be activated. Also make sure that your WAP proxy is correct.
Guest viskas Posted May 12, 2003 Report Posted May 12, 2003 Also make sure that your WAP proxy is correct. try not to hate me! what should I check for the wap proxy?!?
Guest martin Posted May 12, 2003 Report Posted May 12, 2003 Check that the WAP proxy exists and that it has the correct IP address, connects from 'The Internet' and connects to 'WAP Network', Type=WAP. Also make sure there no other Proxys exist that have connects to 'WAP Network'. If so, change or delete it.
