Guest timlegrand Posted May 12, 2003 Report Posted May 12, 2003 Hi there, this is my first post so please be nice...! I'm a bit confused about the difference between unlocking and de-certifying.... in order to download and use unsigned applications do I need to do both or do they do the same thing? Cheers and ta very much! Tim
Guest nato Posted May 12, 2003 Report Posted May 12, 2003 :) Hi Timlegrand 'Unlocking' means sim unlocking and Apllication signing means removing the lock that Orange put on the phone to stop people installing apps. Both of these unlocking steps can be found here; http://coolsmartphone.com Enjoy and have fun !
Guest Posted May 12, 2003 Report Posted May 12, 2003 De-Certifying: Removes the need for an aplication to be certified by Orange before it can run on the phone. This is what you need to do to run unsigned aps. Unlocking: (Sometimes more accurately known as SIM Unlocking) Removes the Network lock on your phone, so you can use the handset on any network. You only need to do this if you want to use your SPV on another network apart from Orange. Hope that helps!
Guest martinb Posted May 12, 2003 Report Posted May 12, 2003 There are two types of unlocking: 1) Application Unlocking (de-certifying). This process removes the requirement for applications to besigned before they can be installed or run on the SPV. This can be done through the Orange website for development purposes. 2) Network Unlocking. This process removes the restriction that only Orange SIMs can be used in retail SPVs. The code to network unlock a phone can be obtained from Orange (when conditions are met). Hth, Martin
Guest NickB&SPV Posted May 12, 2003 Report Posted May 12, 2003 Hi !, To run unsigned applications you need to de-certify your phone. You can do this one of two ways, Over the Air from Orange (probably the easiest) or by reading this post: http://smartphone.modaco.com/viewtopic.php?t=4306 The other is to sim-unlock your phone where you can use any other phone network on the SPV. I have read about this on coolsmartphone.com Hope this helps. :)
Guest timlegrand Posted May 12, 2003 Report Posted May 12, 2003 Cheers very much! That clears things up for me...still a learning newbie- have managed to reset my phone entirely twice, but dammit I'll get there! I must say I'm well impressed at the speed of reply! Cheers again! Tim
