Smartphone in the US Market???

Hi there - I was wondering if anyone knows when the smartphone will enter the US market? I have been hearing things around this summer, but the info I am getting isn't very detailed.

Unofficially....you can buy one now and use it under T-Mobile (and probably Cingular and ATT as well.)

Officially...I heard 3 months for T-Mobile in all of their major markets.
