Guest Big Ron - No Longer a Mem Posted May 12, 2003 Report Posted May 12, 2003 http://www.modem-help.co.uk/chips/index.html I'd lost this one, and rediscovered it thanks to a searech engine - it used to be on Freeserve. Essentially, if you've got a bare modem - no manual, no drivers... just the modem (e.g. you bought it for next to nothing at a computer fair, your mate's formatted his hard drive, and can't find the driver disk that came with the modem...)this site turns dross into purest gold. There are dozens of small outfits in the Far East turning out Connexant (formerly Rockwell) chipset based modems... and the drivers for one don't necessarily work with another - and you can't download the driver if you don't already know the make. This site gives all the information you need to identify the make - just from the markings on the chips and circuitboard. Not just for Connexant - I've yet to find a single modem that it couldn't identify for me by make and model. In many cases it even provides direct links to downloads of the manual, and drivers - not just PC drivers, but Linux and Mac if they're applicable. It's the kind of link that when you need it, you REALLY need it. Worth making a note of.
Guest Monolithix [MVP] Posted May 13, 2003 Report Posted May 13, 2003 Cheers for that, don't suppose you have one for NICs too? :)
Guest James Posted May 13, 2003 Report Posted May 13, 2003 That does look useful! Although I really could of done with this 5 years ago! :)
