One of the reasons i originally chose orange was because of their cheap international calls, now these have risen (quite dramatically in parts of europe) can i use this to get out of the contract early? I want to go to O2 with their international call option.

Damn, Adam, I would have asked you that... you're the insider in the telecoms business :)

Have you tried asking them?

heh, i've never tried to end a contract early before. i haven't asked them yet as i'm not completely sure i'm going to do it, i'm just looking at my options at the moment. i might give them a ring later and ask.

the main problem with O2 is that they don't seen to have any GPRS deals.

Orange usually try to retain their customers so if you scare them to end the contract over price hike (only if you legally can do) then they might consider an alternative arrangement with you. All as long as you can end contract because of this....

I suspect that people will have problems cancelling their contracts early because of this price hike !

Why ? Because Roaming (and it's prices) are classed as an additional service, and not part of the main service that you agree to / connect to ! Remember - to activate roaming you have to call & request it - and it's subject to credit checking etc ...

So Orange will allow you to cancel Roaming, but not your contract because of these charges :-(
