Guest Mlind1 Posted May 13, 2003 Report Posted May 13, 2003 I've heard rumors that sandisk sd cards have problems with the sov..is this true? its just the 256mb ones are only 40 quid on ebay
Guest jim80b Posted May 13, 2003 Report Posted May 13, 2003 i have one and its ok...now, others have had more problems. mine did once stop recognizing card but i took it out and put it back in and no problems since....
Guest MoRFLeZ Posted May 13, 2003 Report Posted May 13, 2003 I don't think there are any problems with SD SanDisk cards .. (I have a 256mb SanDisk card ... and it works a treat)! I have heard there might be problems with MMC SanDisk cards .. (or just MMC cards in general). So go right ahead and buy a SD SanDisk card...
Guest Brody Posted May 13, 2003 Report Posted May 13, 2003 I too can confirm that I bought a Sandisk 256 meg SD Card from e-Bay for around 50 quid (with a free micro racer!) and have had no problems whatsoever! (so far..!)
Guest realistik Posted May 13, 2003 Report Posted May 13, 2003 I bought a 256MB SDcard on QXL, Sandisk with reader included for £60. It worked fine in my camera but it wouldn't delete files via the PC link up, or through the reader. Thought it wouldn't work for SPV, but it does and works like a dream, very strange. Gaz
Guest vijay555 Posted May 13, 2003 Report Posted May 13, 2003 I bought a sandisk card from BuzzLightYear on Ebay. He was fine, and card is kosher. However, on two seperate occassions, I've had many files and dirs on the card. Then, if i've ejected the card (while the phone is switched on), and re-inserted it, i've noticed (in smartexplorer, and generally when loading programs installed on the card) that many files have disappeared. Now, not ALL files have disappeared, just some. Some dirs are empty, others remain intact. As i said, when trying to load missing programs, they obviously don't exist. I suspect this is either a corrupted FAT, mis-read FAT, or dodgy memory cells. However, on one occassion, when re-inserting the card, the files spontaneously reappeared. The other time, when i re-inserted, the files didn't come back. Somebody suggested reformating the card as FAT (16, not 32) I've done so, and no problems so far. However, with regard to the disappearing files on eject trick, my short term solution is as prescribed by Dr Beverly Crusher: - in thick jewish accent "so don't move your arm". Ie. i won't eject the card while the phone is switched on. However, as i said, the card has behaved fine whilst in the phone. I've written to Sandisk re trying to return it, and after a bit of backwards and forwards (their sage-like advice was: "try reformating the card") they've agreed to RMA it, ie replace it. However, it's got to be UPSed to their office in the US. Which means that if i do go to the effort, it'll cost another 10 bob or so. Ie, i don't think i'll bother. However, i would like to hear other opinions. Poll, for good or bad: have you bought a Sandisk off ebay or other cheapy, and had either a (A) good :) experience, or (:D bad  I'd like to know how many have bought these cards and had good or bad times, because i'm thinking of buying another, and want to know if this problem is a one off... Much love :( V
Guest awarner [MVP] Posted May 13, 2003 Report Posted May 13, 2003 Just for the record 99% of all reported storage card problems on this site, have been with Sandisk. Now most of these have been with MMC but recently problems with SD cards are begining to appear. One post claimed that Sandisk had released a dodgy batch of SD recently, and they will aparently exchange the dodgy card for you. So you pay your money and take your chance :?
Guest vijay555 Posted May 14, 2003 Report Posted May 14, 2003 Awarner, you are talking about "Sandisk" right, not Scandisk? I mentioned about the "bad batch" elsewhere, which was also rumoured from The-dvd-forums website. I've certainly had some odd behaviour with my Sandisk, although as indicated, only when ejecting the card. I don't know if that would happen with other cards, but i also posted re Sandisk's RMA, which seems to require posting to the US :) Seems like more trouble than it's worth, if the card works most of the time, but i'll post any further incidents here. V
Guest awarner [MVP] Posted May 14, 2003 Report Posted May 14, 2003 Yep sorry it's ment to be Sandisk NOT Scandisk  post edited sorry I keep adding a "c"
Guest Posted May 14, 2003 Report Posted May 14, 2003 Just to add my two cents, I also got a 256 mb Sandisk SD card from Ebay, and it seems fine. I have ejected it from the phone a few times and haven't had any probs. Luck of the draw I guess?
Guest Monolithix [MVP] Posted May 14, 2003 Report Posted May 14, 2003 I have a 128meg Sandisk SD Card. I believe reported problems were with SanDisk MMC cards...
Guest awarner [MVP] Posted May 14, 2003 Report Posted May 14, 2003 They were but as I posted above SD have started to creap in :?
Guest Jandy Posted June 7, 2004 Report Posted June 7, 2004 I think this is relevant to the thread.....but here goes..... I'm still on the 16MB that came with my MPX-200 (won't allow myself to get bigger 1 till after exams) - following a hard reset (only 1 I've done) task manager no longer shows 16MB as the total, but 14MB!! I did delete some .arm files after the reset - these were for crappy game demo's, but I dunno why that might happen. Have I lost 2MB, or is the storage there somewhere undetected? Technical types? (looking at Awarner :) ) Cheers for any help. J
Guest awarner [MVP] Posted June 7, 2004 Report Posted June 7, 2004 That's normal for what you have there as you never get the full 16MB. Simply put the missing MB is used for the cards file system.
Guest Jandy Posted June 7, 2004 Report Posted June 7, 2004 Oh right, thanks. Could have sworn it started displaying 16MB, but perhaps it had 2 MB more storage used on the 16 MB total, and is the same. Like I say, I'll get a good big one soon anyhow. PS. Accidentally reported your post to moderators (including yourself probably) What does that bring about?
Guest awarner [MVP] Posted June 7, 2004 Report Posted June 7, 2004 PS. Accidentally reported your post to moderators (including yourself probably) What does that bring about? Me having another look at this post :) Don't worry we do get some reports by mistake from time to time, normally it's used to alert us to dodgy posts that break the rules etc.
Guest skramblr Posted June 8, 2004 Report Posted June 8, 2004 For what it's worth, SanDisk and some other manufacturers started using SD cards produced in a new format last year. It started with the higher capacity cards and is now trickling down into the 128MB sizes. This caused issues on the Magellan GPS I use. Initial reports from users where that there was bad batches of SD cards (traceable by the lot numbers on the cards). Eventually we cam to realize that it was all NEW cards coming for SanDisk and other manufacter's SD cards started to show the same issues. Magellan eventually released firmware patches that fixed the problem. Not sure if this is related to the problem on the phones, but thought I would relate my experience with the GPS.
Guest awarner [MVP] Posted June 8, 2004 Report Posted June 8, 2004 Interesting as we never ha an official response from Sandisk but the problem with dodgy cards made by them dissappeared in the summer last year. We were led to believe the problem was a dodgy batch as there has not been any problems since with Sandisk.
Guest dnlucifer Posted October 31, 2004 Report Posted October 31, 2004 my spv has stopped recognising my sd card altogether no matter how many times i eject it and put it back in? infact i've tried 2 cards (impact 64mb and also lexar media 64mb) card and neither show in the phone. All i get when i open smart explorer is profiles, storage, temp and windows.I've tried formatting (using sp task manager) both cards and all it says is "unable to access sd/mmc card!" any idea's??? :?
