Guest rainbat Posted March 14, 2003 Report Posted March 14, 2003 Hello guys, I'm quite new to the Smartphone Development and so far I'm still in the 'Hello World' phase - but I'm slowly catching up :) After it came out, that the whole voicetag feature is not working, I was also a little bit dissapointed, but overall the phone is a great product ;) Now here my idea : When a call or an sms comes in the phone plays a special WAV sound(already implemented) - but if it doesn't have a wav sound assigned, it lets you record one immediatly after the call is completed. So with a simple Message loop and the Sound-API hooked up this should be fairly simple to implement. Additionaly some categorization checks could be done before playing the wav ... like ('sms from' + $name) ... I guess you see my idea - Wouldn't it be great if the phone sits in your pocket and screams in your voice 'sms from Jenny' - or 'email from Dad' ... This could help in the everyday live of people with poor eyesight for example, or while driving ... etc. What do you guys think ? Thanks for your time :D Dom Freelancer & 3d artist
Guest casper508 Posted March 14, 2003 Report Posted March 14, 2003 Correct me if im wrong but does the Sound-API mean some sort of a text-to-speech engine? If it is then wont that be very heavy on the resources? But if the above CAN be implemented then i dont see why we cant use that engine to read SMS as well! Imagine urself on the date and your phone goes, "message from MOM, 'Come home you idiot, I need the car!' " . ;) :D Cas P.S. Its still kinda early in the day :)
Guest rainbat Posted March 14, 2003 Report Posted March 14, 2003 right ! that could just about make your day :) Well, i guess in a first step i would just detect certain strings in the sms and play an assigned wav file ... i guess for text-to-speech its still to early and to resource heavy ... you're totally right there ... but it would be a step into a cool direction ;)
Guest yatpeak Posted March 16, 2003 Report Posted March 16, 2003 I like the idea of it reading out SMSs... Wyatt
