Guest nobznss Posted May 13, 2003 Report Posted May 13, 2003 I just got a new SPV, and when I put in the SIM card it simply says "network denied, searching." What does that mean? Is my phone locked? Hope someone can help. Thanks!
Guest nobznss Posted May 13, 2003 Report Posted May 13, 2003 Oh, I should probably add that I am in the US and am on the T-Mobile network.
Guest awarner [MVP] Posted May 13, 2003 Report Posted May 13, 2003 OK you say new, is it new from Orange or did you get it from other sources? just seen you are in the US so chances are you did not get it from Orange.
Guest nobznss Posted May 13, 2003 Report Posted May 13, 2003 No, I got it from other sources. Someone in the UK just sent it to me.
Guest awarner [MVP] Posted May 13, 2003 Report Posted May 13, 2003 DOH!!! you added that as I was posting  OK so it the phone is more than likely SIM locked. Have a look in the Articles section and there is a topic all about SIM unlocking the phone. EDIT Here's the link for you :) Any problems just shout.
Guest Monolithix [MVP] Posted May 13, 2003 Report Posted May 13, 2003 Check you have the correct band selected too. Programs > Settings > Telephony > Band selection
Guest nobznss Posted May 13, 2003 Report Posted May 13, 2003 Okay, I did everything I was told, but when I restarted the phone, I didn't get a screen that asked me to enter the unlocking code. What should I do?
Guest nobznss Posted May 13, 2003 Report Posted May 13, 2003 Sure did, and it was selected correctly.
Guest Monolithix [MVP] Posted May 13, 2003 Report Posted May 13, 2003 Tried the SIM in another handset?
Guest Monolithix [MVP] Posted May 13, 2003 Report Posted May 13, 2003 Err.... When i put another networks SIM in my phone it poped up the PIN1 screen then the unlock code screen...your's just goes straight to the homescreen saying network denied?
Guest nobznss Posted May 13, 2003 Report Posted May 13, 2003 It sure does. After getting the code, should I turn off the phone, or just take off the battery and put in the SIM? When I did it, I did the latter. I just took off the battery rather than powering down the phone. Could that have done something?
Guest awarner [MVP] Posted May 13, 2003 Report Posted May 13, 2003 Just going through old posts and there is a possibility that you may have been ripped off, and have a stolen phone that has been blocked :) But from past posts that should not affect you in the US unless the network providers are talking on a larger scale now? Let's just hope it's a SIM unlock problem you have :?
Guest nobznss Posted May 13, 2003 Report Posted May 13, 2003 Let's definately not hope for that. I just tried it all over again, and I'm having the same problem. I get an unlocking code, but have nowhere to enter it in. It just goes to "network denied, searching." Is there not any manual way to do it?
Guest nobznss Posted May 13, 2003 Report Posted May 13, 2003 Does the Orange SIM card need to be in when unlocking it?
Guest awarner [MVP] Posted May 13, 2003 Report Posted May 13, 2003 I thought it did, but as I have never needed to SIM unlock I cannot be certain. But other members who I presume have unlocked say that the Orange SIM is not needed. Sorry but that's all I know at the moment :) Have you gone through the unlock topic in articles? there may be something that we have missed there.
Guest nobznss Posted May 13, 2003 Report Posted May 13, 2003 Would it matter whether any of the updates were installed?
Guest nobznss Posted May 14, 2003 Report Posted May 14, 2003 I just attempted a hard reset. When the phone comes back up it says the exact same thing. Shouldn't I be getting a different message? Hmmm...
Guest nobznss Posted May 14, 2003 Report Posted May 14, 2003 OH MY GOSH!!!! I finally figured it out!! Aparently it was the band selection. I'm not sure why, but here in the states (maybe in other areas) in order to work, the phone must be set on PCS. I wouldn't assume that considering T-mobile is a GSM network. But maybe I'm wrong. At any rate thank you SO much for all your help!!!
Guest awarner [MVP] Posted May 14, 2003 Report Posted May 14, 2003 Glad is was an easy(ish) problem in the end :) have fun
Guest Monolithix [MVP] Posted May 14, 2003 Report Posted May 14, 2003 Check you have the correct band selected too. Programs > Settings > Telephony > Band selection :)
