Guest schildy Posted May 14, 2003 Report Posted May 14, 2003 I spoke with Orange last w/e to get my MMS stuff up and running, first time I had used it and all that. Since then, I cannot acces any of the Orange stuff, can't access e-mails and generally can't use the phone except to call and SMS. If I try to use GPRS, it comes up with an "unable to place call" error, and then continuously tries to re dial. Orange have sent new settings etc, and genrally been some help, but I think it is past their usual help desk topic. Any ideas, please.
Guest Dave DR Posted May 14, 2003 Report Posted May 14, 2003 have a look on www.coolsmartphone.com there are some good guides if you have problems, also make sure your data connections is set to GPRS and not pass thru Automatic or Wap...
Guest Monolithix [MVP] Posted May 14, 2003 Report Posted May 14, 2003 http://www.coolsmartphone.com/fix.html for correct settings (that will work with passthrough) i believe.
Guest martin Posted May 14, 2003 Report Posted May 14, 2003 I take it you still have the top centre G active ? Goto Settings and data connection make sure you have 'Internet Connection=Orange GPRS' and 'WAP Conenction= Orange WAP'. Goto IE (menu/option/connections) and tick 'auto detect settings'. Access wsp://wap.o2.co.uk/ (check orangewap access point) Access http://wap.o2.co.uk (check orangeinternet access point)
Guest schildy Posted May 14, 2003 Report Posted May 14, 2003 Thanks for your help, but so far it is not coming to anything. Yes I do have the boxed G in the centre, but something I noticed was that when I tried to access, the small g by the signal strength would flash on and off, so I even went out into the open to make sure that the building wasn't causing problems(it hasn't in the past but hey ho!)So I have rechecked everything, and can only come to the conclusion that the phone is hosed, maybe thwe modem side of thigs is dead, I don't know. Martin, I tried to get into those 2 access points but to no avail. Thanks so far but are there anyother suggestions.
Guest schildy Posted May 14, 2003 Report Posted May 14, 2003 Something I have just tried. I did the SPV unlock, to allow any SIM to be used, worked fine, and have been able to use my company mob sim, which fired up straight away. Tried to access the GPRS stuff again after checking the settings, and it still doesn't work, which, after trying hard resets, unlocks et al, that there must be a problem with the phone, do you think? dazed and :?
Guest darkmonth Posted May 24, 2003 Report Posted May 24, 2003 I have exactly the same problem and my mate doesnt Dunno what to do.
Guest vijay555 Posted May 24, 2003 Report Posted May 24, 2003 do you guys have smartface etc installed? there was some incompatibility with earlier versions of the caller id programs. Search the boards. Otherwise, check net settings are working when passing through to pc, ie can you browse at all? This shld tell u if the browsing side of things is functional. Maybe try connecting with laptop thru IR if poss. Finally, try posting your GPRS settings here. Remeber that some people posted comments about GPRS not working after the first connection. V
Guest darkmonth Posted May 24, 2003 Report Posted May 24, 2003 I have tried everything. I have no software installed. This is from Factory settings... then Hard Reset. Then installed update. Everything I have read about, I have tried. I have just decided to stop bothering. I've got ADSL at home anyway so I don't really care anymore. It's too annoying to keep trying. Cheers tho Dave
Guest martin Posted May 24, 2003 Report Posted May 24, 2003 I spoke with Orange last w/e to get my MMS stuff up and running, first time I had used it and all that. Since then, I cannot acces any of the Orange stuff, can't access e-mails and generally can't use the phone except to call and SMS. First of all I would forget about WAP & MMS for the moment and concentrate on just the Internet connection which is APN orangeinternet. Make sure you have a charged battery before starting. When you switch the phone off & on you should get the centre G which shows at least that you still have GPRS activated on your account and that you've successfully attached to you GPRS serving node. Try to establish if the GPRS services are also still created on your account. In Settings - Data Connections - Edit GPRS connections. Check that Orange GPRS hads: connects to the Internet & APN orangeinternet. In Settings - Data Connections Check that the Internet Connection = Orange GPRS. In Internet Explorer- menu - options - Connections De-activate auto settings and make 'Select network = The internet' Try to connect to favourite Orange (which is http://smartphone.orange.co.uk/today) If this internet conenction does not work then ask Orange to re-activate all the GPRS services which are internet (orangeinternet), WAP (orangewap) and MMS (orangemms). If you find any internet settings which were created by Orange which are different to the above, let us know what they were. (still ignore wap&mms for the moment) martin
Guest cybercamel Posted May 24, 2003 Report Posted May 24, 2003 I had this problem, tried everything including checking all the settings etc etc. In the end, and I'm not sure where I got it from, probably from this list, I was told to take the battery out leave it for 10 secs and put it back in, it worked a treat and I haven't any problems since!! I presume, not being too technically minded, that this is a soft reset?
Guest darkmonth Posted May 24, 2003 Report Posted May 24, 2003 Erm, thats called turning it off. I have had the battery out a million times (considering the thing crashes so often, freezing the off button, you actually HAVE to take the battery out). I can't work it out and as I said, I had stopped bothering. However, Orange just sent me a letter saying how they have extended my GPRS thing for a mere £4 a month. Considering when the forced me to take the £6 a month option I never once managed to get the thing working, I intend on phoning them and getting that cancelled asap!!! Theiving bastards. Shouldn't they ask before taking the blasted money. In fact, this month I even had a call on my phone for £8, before my free minutes had been used up (I rarely use all my minutes) and they haven't even listed it with a number. So, its a blank number for £8. I am gonna sort that out too. Theiving gits!
