Guest jm-darcy Posted May 14, 2003 Report Posted May 14, 2003 Hello All, I have found a company that can replace covers on the SPV. They are a shop from which I purchased my used SPV. When I experienced a software problem, the shop took the phone back and said as a gesture of good will, they would replace the covers for me (they were scuffed with chips around the base). I thought this was strange as I though only Orange could do the cover change. - The phone came back immaculate. Looks brand spanking new! I have discussed the business opportunity with the owner and explained and the huge demand for a cover replacement service. The shop would like to know the level of interest in this service before they make it "commercially available" to us SPV users. He needs to know the level of interest for "costing reasons". I have been asked not to disclose the shop's details in case they decide not to make it one of their services. Otherwise they would be inundated with calls asking them to do it. So please could you fill in the poll keeping in mind the following: 1.The cover would be a genuine replacement. 2.The phone would be insured in case of damage and replacement phone provided if things go wrong. 3.The phone will be tested to check it works before and after the cover change. 4.Customer would pay for postage to and from shop using the service of their choice. Thanks everyone and I will keep you up-to-date. From the expereince I have had, the shop is very friendly and helpful and the service I have received has been superb. If they began to offer this service then I would recommend them to anyone. If you have any more questions/suggestions about this possible service, please post them and I will forward them to the shop. Cheers James
Guest anders_g Posted May 14, 2003 Report Posted May 14, 2003 I don't think the demand is for letting a company change the cover, I think the demand is for buying the covers for themselves and to change them by yourself. /Anders
Guest eyup Posted May 14, 2003 Report Posted May 14, 2003 yeah i'd second that. wouldnt want to send my phone away just to get a new cover.
Guest b1uepower Posted May 14, 2003 Report Posted May 14, 2003 its quicker to do it your self aswell..
Guest MoRFLeZ Posted May 14, 2003 Report Posted May 14, 2003 I would buy covers, but not the actual service of them putting the covers on! You used to be able to buy covers here in Denmark, fairly cheap too! But apparently you can only buy them now, if you have the company install the covers, which they charge like £20-25 for ... darn shame!
Guest anders_g Posted May 14, 2003 Report Posted May 14, 2003 It can't be true that none are willing to sell us covers, there must be a place ( I hope). /Anders
Guest ajb3000 Posted May 14, 2003 Report Posted May 14, 2003 definately agree, just get them to send out the covers and instructions on how to replace them yourself.
Guest jm-darcy Posted May 14, 2003 Report Posted May 14, 2003 Hi all, Thanks to everyone who has voted, I will forward the results to him in the near future. I agree that it is very frustrating not to be able to buy covers from anywhere so I wil ask where the shop has got them from and whether they would be available to purchase. One last point though is that I would be very concerned about opening up the Smartphone. At least if it was sent a shop, they would replace the phone is things went wrong. If you attempted it yourself and it all went wrong it could be very expensive. I had a Siemens SL45 which I took to pieces to replace the covers. The microphone for example made contact with the electric board on two tiny springs. If these were just half a millimetre out of place then the microphone didn't work. I made that mistake and it cost a lot to repair as I had lost one of these tiny springs and a new microphone was the best part of £30 sent from Germany! Anyway just a thought. James
Guest ajb3000 Posted May 14, 2003 Report Posted May 14, 2003 Well I for one would not be prepared to send my phone off, because I would be unhappy with the inconveniance of not having my SPV for a few days, and I don't like sending things to other people like that. I would however definately buy a replacement cover if it was for a reasonable price.
Guest Brody Posted May 14, 2003 Report Posted May 14, 2003 I agree, i think the general concensus is that we would love to be able to buy covers and fit them ourselves as we would all miss our phones too much if we were to send them away!!! Seriously though it is an inconvenience to be without it for a few days.
Guest sprouts42 Posted May 14, 2003 Report Posted May 14, 2003 Yeah, I have a crack on the cover that needs replacing. Getting hold of new covers would be great.
