My phone locks up after booting (the home screen becomes visible but I get a 'no service' status where the operator logo should be). I cannot power down the phone via the power button and have to resort to taking the battery out of the back.

I've tried hard resetting but this has made no difference.

I have applied the UK update and removed certification via the Orange website. The only programs I have installed are GNUBoy and Orneta (sp) Notepad. I have not installed any programs recently(over a month).

Any ideas or am I going to have to send this back to Orange?

Using which SIM card?

How long are you waiting before pulling the battery?

I've waited a good 15 minutes before pulling the battery. Interestingly sometimes it manages to load the clock, sometimes not.

Once it's said "PASSED" just hold the power button or pull the battery to reboot....
