Guest MECX Posted May 14, 2003 Report Posted May 14, 2003 at least ell me why my posts keep getting deleted? it wasnt anything illegal i was talking about? PS. why does the popular file sharing program get renamed kazza
Guest Vector Posted May 14, 2003 Report Posted May 14, 2003 But it is linked to piracy i suppose .... The name gets changed because of some permissions in phpbb, you can choose words to substitute words :)
Guest MECX Posted May 14, 2003 Report Posted May 14, 2003 bust file sharing programs arnt illegal? just downloading illegal stuff is--i would never download anything i didnt have the copywrite for :)
Guest Monolithix [MVP] Posted May 14, 2003 Report Posted May 14, 2003 And by saying that you are implying you do. It also is far too easy to link them to illegal file sharing. To have to decide whether a persons intentions are good or not every time it is mentioned is a very sujective and personal task. So it is easier to put an outright ban on programs known to promote piracy.
Guest Palindrome Posted May 14, 2003 Report Posted May 14, 2003 It's still relating to a very grey area. If we want developers to use this site and feel secure that their apps are not gonna be offered for free all over the internet it's best to stay clear of file-sharing altogether.
Guest Paul [MVP] Posted May 14, 2003 Report Posted May 14, 2003 Indeed. Is it OK to post on an internet forum if I knew way of withdrawing money from a cashpoint without it debiting your account, on the basis that it would be illegal so you wouldn't do it? Of course not... I think the same thing applies here. As Palindrome rightly said, developers use this site and are more and more giving MoDaCo Members exclusive access to beta test their applications. This can only flourish in an environment where piracy is outlawed to the fullest extent, and unfortunately that includes banning all talk re: peer to peer software. Hope you understand :) P
Guest Vector Posted May 14, 2003 Report Posted May 14, 2003 I think this is very fair :) , if i was a developer and saw threads about the best P2P software to use, i certainly wouldn't fell safe releasing betas of my products ... :(
Guest adam Posted May 14, 2003 Report Posted May 14, 2003 "I share my entire hard drive with the world, thanks for the software"
Guest MECX Posted May 14, 2003 Report Posted May 14, 2003 ok furry muff. still i think you should tell people that you have deleted there threads and why so they dont keep posting the same thing--maybe by a PM. oh and why the word kazza? :)
Guest gradiation Posted May 14, 2003 Report Posted May 14, 2003 ok furry muff. Thats my line u cheeky widget
Guest adam Posted May 14, 2003 Report Posted May 14, 2003 Crunchy on the outside, soft on the inside!!
Guest gradiation Posted May 14, 2003 Report Posted May 14, 2003 the tasty alternative to armadillos 2 armadillos?

Guest gradiation Posted May 14, 2003 Report Posted May 14, 2003 wow, flash developers and furry muff, what next?
Guest MECX Posted May 14, 2003 Report Posted May 14, 2003 So why not come up with 'exciting' names to replace WinMX, armadillo, Imesh? :D or maybe replace certain words with cool smilies. whats a widget---i dont live in a can of beer  my arse is cheeky im not :) :(
Guest gradiation Posted May 15, 2003 Report Posted May 15, 2003 Hehe, i think they should assosiate a word with Nokia, oops sorry :)
Guest madu Posted May 15, 2003 Report Posted May 15, 2003 Hehe, i think they should assosiate a word with Nokia, oops sorry :) Good shout!! Let's just think of a replacement word....
Guest siu99spj Posted May 15, 2003 Report Posted May 15, 2003 Good shout!! Let's just think of a replacement word.... How about 'pile of soiled nappies'? One of my brothers favourite expressions! :)
Guest awarner [MVP] Posted May 15, 2003 Report Posted May 15, 2003 ok furry muff. still i think you should tell people that you have deleted there threads and why so they dont keep posting the same thing--maybe by a PM. oh and why the word armadillo? :)Who ever removed your post should have pm'ed you about the fact and given you a PM warning, Normally if someone then reoffended they would then receive a nice shiney new official warning to add to their status which will not be be removed  any more after that they would be banned from posting. Also if you read the site rules it clearly states... No posts discussing or links to illegal software These will be deleted, and you will receive an official warning. Repeat offenders will be banned. Using a P2P network like the one censored is promoting piracy, it's the only reason it was created. Or is it ok to say "oops my finger slipped on download, I 'll go and buy the software legaly tomorrow honest"
Guest MECX Posted May 15, 2003 Report Posted May 15, 2003 erm ok *sobs* ill try to be good *sobs more* my posts wernt malicious (for people who didnt get to see them) just asking what programs people use. Not many people dont know about peer to peer programs, and talking about what programs people use (and not the stuff they download) wouldent get the site in trouble---but i agree it is a grey area and could lead on to illegal stuff to easy--best just to ban the lot--it is a smartphone forum after all. *slaps own wrist* PS How many posts are removed a day on this site?--or are the pple generally good?
Guest Monolithix [MVP] Posted May 15, 2003 Report Posted May 15, 2003 Generally quite good, although that's assuming i personally see the posts first. I've no idea how many the other mod's remove...
Guest MECX Posted May 15, 2003 Report Posted May 15, 2003 ooooo i think there should be a statistics page for the mods-- topics locked (erm yes i think you would win mono  ) topics removed warnings given people banned :) :(
Guest awarner [MVP] Posted May 16, 2003 Report Posted May 16, 2003 Topics locked Mono Topics removed that would be ME warnings given ME again People banned Only one person banned so far and that was by ME Like I always post, I'm not as forgiving as some  Keep the site clean and things like meets free givaways etc will continue.
