It supports .NET Messenger Service, Session Initiation Protocol and Internet Locator Service on PCs, Pocket PCs, Handheld PCs and Smartphone. It runs on local area networks, dialup networks and even wireless networks with bandwidths as low as 9.6 kilobits/second. Microsoft Portrait delivers portrait-like video if users are in low bandwidths and displays full-color video if users are in broadband.

The program is free and you can download it from ....

I wonder if you could mod the camera to make the connector the other way round?

Or even better, a cable that connects the camera to the phone so you can move the camera around somewhat independantly.

So anyone tried the software? I installed it this morning but didn't have time to do more than that...

err, dont mean to sound negative, but wont this kill your gprs bill?????

i mean, quoted 2.4kbps is 1mb in 7mins, unless O do something radical with gprs charges surely this app will never be used?

Maybe if you work for orange and have an unlimited GPRS cap...

Anybody got this working yet? Tried to install but it will only install to system memory whatever that means. And I cant find it on my phone.

Got it all working but I don't think you can use the camera on the phone, Looks like you can receive video... Plus does it have to be connected to your PC or can we use it down the pub !??

Yeah, got it installed now too. Asks for an ip address to connect to. Tried the wifes ip address but fails to connect.

DO you think you can use the SPV as a Webcam for your desktop computer?? in that way you could use pass trough, and it wouldn't mather what way the camera was! A little problem with tre cradle though..

I think this software is meant for the camera you can plug into the SDCard reader.. Any ideas when that camera is going to be avalibla??

Well, this here SDIO camera has been 'available for pre-order' from this web site for a while:

Spectec SD camera

The frame rate should be a lot higher than the standard camera..

(EDIT: sorry - kinda mis-read the question. Don't know when it's going to be out, but that's one possibility & you could try e-mailing the expansys web site?)

Well seeing as I lost my orignal camera I'm quite keen to find a replacement. Shame that in order to store the photos I'd have to first store them to phone memory then juggle it to an sd card, but if the frame rate was sufficient then it would probably be worth it - especially if it could be used to send video with this cunning little application.

I know the gprs costs would pretty much make this unworkable, but when you consider that 3 charge 50p/min for video calls then you realise its actually cheaper with the Orange GPRS rates!

Edit, no actually forget that

9kb/s × 60 secs = 540k a min= £1.50 a min at PAYG GPRS rates. Hm, forget that then!

you cant get 9kb/sec though, in fact, did a test with streaming audio at 2.5kb/sec, and it couldnt even handle that

TIP: If you go to "ABOUT" screen it shows you current IP address of the phone!

I dunno what thats all about. I went to about in mine and the missus phone and they both have the same ip address!!!

Still can't get it to work either. Connected to pc via activesync like the instructions said to test it and it stuck on connecting.

I installed the program but it didn't load on my phone. I had to install it manually by grabbing the CAB file here:

C:Program FilesMicrosoft ActiveSyncMicrosoft PortraitportraitSP.ARM.CAB

I then installed the program onto the phone via my SD card. And the program runs but....

...it doesn't open my GPRS connection. So I open a page on IE to open the connection, then run the prog and try to connect....nothing.

...EXIT does nothing as well.

Any tips on getting this to work????
