Guest orange_sandman Posted May 15, 2003 Report Posted May 15, 2003 Having real problems finding/creating a homescreen layout that fits with the background images that I would like to use. Want to put in something basic with just time/date and small MRUs placed so that they dont spoil the pretty picture... Tried following the tutorial on the microsoft website and completely lost the plot. Can one of you guys point me in the direction of an idiot proof tutorial, or a layout that you think would work with the attached back ground. Guest drblow Posted May 17, 2003 Report Posted May 17, 2003 m8 - The best thing to do is search around for skins you like the layout of, DL them & extract the xml files (if it's a .hme file, you will have to install it to the phone, then get the xml from IPSM/apllication data/home. You can then edit the xml to your hearts content. If you pick a layout which is suited to your ideas, then you shouldn't need to do much to the xml other than positioning (which is really just "x" & "y" values). There is no substitute for just editing the xml, & then checking what effect the changes have on the home screen. I'm a total amateur myself, and found the tutorials all a bit confusing- so I just started mucking about with stuff, and you pick it up eventually!
Guest Neil Enns (MS) Posted May 24, 2003 Report Posted May 24, 2003 Try starting with the simple.home.xml file found in the windows directory of your SPV. It's actually my favourite layout since it just has the basics. I usually just run with it and my pretty picture in the background.
