Guest GNU Posted May 16, 2003 Report Posted May 16, 2003 Hi! I'm using my SPV in Sweden. There's not such thing as Orange here so I would be *very* grateful if some nice person would be so kind and upload the files needed to run the keyboard. I bought the keyboard when was Denmark.. They said that I needed an Orange operator to use it. "Yeah, right..." I thought. They said the same thing about using the phone with the local Vodafone-operator. !!!!HELP!!! PLEASE!!!
Guest Simon Desser Posted May 16, 2003 Report Posted May 16, 2003 IF someone were to send you the drivers, you need to apply the full ROM update (the drivers on their own won't work). This would also re-apply the certification lock, which (I think) can only be removed by Orange using their OTA unlocking site. To do this, you would need to be an Orange customer  Unless, you're lucky enough to have a new SPV with the required ROM version on it :?:
Guest GNU Posted May 16, 2003 Report Posted May 16, 2003 I can use the unlock site. So if could only get the /"(%# Orange update to give me another answer than "Your device is up-to-date"
Guest Gorskar Posted May 16, 2003 Report Posted May 16, 2003 I've no idea how to send the keyboard drivers to someone - they come via orange update OTA. I don't think theres any option to save them to a file which can be sent to people, or someone would have dont it by now. (I should be getting hold of a keyboard v soon, so I will need to find these drivers myself - but being a uk resident with an orange contract there should be no problem there) Only advice I can offer is to apply the latest UK orange update, (so it thinks yours is a uk phone) then try and attempt to get the drivers via orange update with your phone in the cradle.

All you have to do is, run Orange Update on your phone, it then downloads the .exe file needed. Then say NO to installing it. Then, using ActiveSync, browse to IPSM, My Documents, and you'll see the exe file sat there called "UK_XDPDeliver.exe" . Copy it to your PC and there you go. Only problem seems to be that, it will only install over the top of certain ROMS, I think it checks first. But as you say, if you ran the UK update first, you should be fine? Cheers Simon.
Guest smartphone-web.com Posted May 16, 2003 Report Posted May 16, 2003 If anybody could mail me this "UK_XDPDeliver.exe" it would be great!!! Then i could use my keyboard. :)
Guest yoos Posted May 16, 2003 Report Posted May 16, 2003 If anyone would like to feel really generous and send it to me I would also really appreciate it... I don't want to sound greedy or anything though...
Guest Gorskar Posted May 16, 2003 Report Posted May 16, 2003 I'll have a go at this when my keyboard arrives (should be soon). You might have to apply the UK update to get it to install though.
Guest Simon Desser Posted May 16, 2003 Report Posted May 16, 2003 I'll have a go at this when my keyboard arrives (should be soon). How long have you been waiting? They've got them in stock now at the Orange Shop on Market Street, Manchester for £49.99.
Guest mattbrown Posted May 16, 2003 Report Posted May 16, 2003 ive reapplied the k/board update rom and it picked up that i had already had the latest rom update and just installed the driver with no re certing of the phone

Guest Gorskar Posted May 16, 2003 Report Posted May 16, 2003 David from smartgamer was kind enough to let me have a spare one from someone who went to mobius with him, got a free one and didn't want it. I'm just waiting for him to post it to me (I think he sent it today). When it arrives I'll have a go at saving the drivers to a file for people who are having problems getting it though orange update, and then I'll have to go through the whole process of applying the driver update and the orange Decert process...
Guest mattbrown Posted May 16, 2003 Report Posted May 16, 2003 so for the multi posts - dunno what happened there :)
Guest Simon Desser Posted May 16, 2003 Report Posted May 16, 2003 I've got the file, but I don't know where we stand legally? I could post it here if Paul / the Mods think it's allowed? At the end of the day, it's ridiculous that a product like this, is sold without the required drivers, so I personally don't have a problem in sharing the .exe file. However, there are some important things to bear in mind:- It seems that the ROM update needed, will only install over certain (maybe UK) ROMS. Applying this update re-certs the phone, and from then on, (AFAIK) can ONLY be de-certed using the Orange OTA unlock. So if you're phone is not registerd with Orange, you might end up with a locked phone. Thanks Simon
Guest kingdom master Posted May 17, 2003 Report Posted May 17, 2003 i also seperated the drivers for the keyoard from the update. its easy. and it works remember the update is an advised update not somthing u must install. the keyboard however should be made available no matter what u wish to have on ur phone. so the legally drivers should become available without having the update.
Guest Gorskar Posted May 17, 2003 Report Posted May 17, 2003 If I could have the drivers without the update that would make me happy :)
Guest caio1 Posted May 17, 2003 Report Posted May 17, 2003 Someone please put the drivers online. I can put them on a website if needed. Caio
Guest Simon Desser Posted May 17, 2003 Report Posted May 17, 2003 Here's the keyboard drivers, extracted from the last UK update. I havn't tried it without the update, but other people seem to think it will work. From a moral/legal point of view, it's useless to anyone without a keyboard, and anyone who owns a keyboard, (wherever they are in the world) SHOULD be supplied drivers for it :!: Hope it works :?:keyboard.zip
Guest spanish Posted May 18, 2003 Report Posted May 18, 2003 As Simon expected, getting the keyboard going is not as simple as installing the driver(s). Thank you very much for posting these though, it shows generosity and respect for foreign enthusiasts far beyond what Orange bothers to do. The drivers allow full set up of the keyboard, hot key assignment etc, but the phone has no communication with the keyboard at all (as far as I can tell). Perhaps the 1.3.7.x update facilitates communication through the port in the base. Curiously (as I am in a different country from where I bought the phone), the Orange update function works on the phone, but erroneously. It keeps checking with some net source and keeps me informed that no update is necessary because I am completely up-to-date. As it works through GPRS, I can't see why it would be of any difficulty at all for Orange to open the update to foreign users. Surely the manufacturers of the keyboard would ask for this!?
Guest spanish Posted May 24, 2003 Report Posted May 24, 2003 I have a Danish version SPV, I am in Australia and have no access to Orange update, but I successfully installed the keyboard in the following way (all thanks to Simon Desser). I didn't back up my IPSM to save my data, as I didn't have settings and data I was worried about. However all settings and data were retained in the process. If you have data you wish to save, back it up to an SD card using USBTerm (details on MoDaCo) first. The next 6 steps are courtesy of a Modaco post that I've lost the reference to. 1) Attempt the UK update (available on the Orange UK site) once using version 3.6 of ActiveSync. This will place a file in your SPV's Windows folder called DeviceData.txt 2) Close Setup when it fails and copy DeviceData.txt to your PC 3) Edit "DeviceData.txt" using Notepad and replace just the text ORG_DK with the text ORG_UK (you can leave the version number as is) 4) Set DeviceData.txt as "Read Only" by right-clicking and choosing "Properties" - IMPORTANT! 5) Copy it back to the SPV's Windows folder and agree to overwrite the old file 6) Now run the update Setup again and it should be accepted. This is because the phone is unable to overwrite the DeviceData.txt file due to its read only status, and so it skips that step and just reads it. It then sees you have a ORG_UK phone, not DK (DenmarK), 'cause you tricked it you crafty bugger. I had to do this step a dozen times before it "took". I don't know why, and I don't know if I was lucky or unlucky, all I can say is that it finally worked. Now you can restore your IPSM to get all your settings back. Next I transferred the two files attached into the START folder (in WINDOWS in IPSM) and the phone then installed the keyboard driver(s) with no problem. I also installed the cab file in Simon's post above, I don't know whether this was duplicative (probably) or not, however the result was successful and I'm now having fun with the keyboard. Thanks Simon, and thanks Modaco for providing the forum.UK_XDPDeliver.zip
