Guest wst2208 Posted May 16, 2003 Report Posted May 16, 2003 I'm new to the spv, how do I unlock my phone and what does this do? I noticed some post's saying that I can get this done at the orange web site, but I've had a look and can't find any references to this. Thanks. Wayne.
Guest Posted May 16, 2003 Report Posted May 16, 2003 The page you need is http://www.developers.orange.com/workingwith/2003/03/04/Unlocking/>here. You have to pretend that you are a software developer though! :)
Guest Chris b.a.r.f. Posted May 16, 2003 Report Posted May 16, 2003 You have to pretend that you are a software developer though! :) True enough - though it's not so much that that's the issue really, more that by pressing [Accept] you're telling Orange that if your phone gets shagged/you get a massive GPRS bill/whatever because you installed a dodgy app then you accept that you're on your own. It's been discussed a million times here of course, but de-certing turns the SPV into something very much better than it is out-of.the-box.
Guest NickB&SPV Posted May 16, 2003 Report Posted May 16, 2003 I recommend looking in Articles about backing up your phone to an SD Card, saves lots of heartache if it goes wrong!

Not really necessary if doing the OTA de-cert as you don't stand much chance of losing your data, but good to have a backup in any case :)

Guest HelloDave Posted May 16, 2003 Report Posted May 16, 2003 HelloDave get a massive GPRS bill/whatever because you installed a dodgy app then you accept that you're on your own But I can't afford a huge GPRS bill  Perhaps Orange are on to me - do you think I should recert my phone
Guest Brody Posted May 17, 2003 Report Posted May 17, 2003 Chris b.a.r.f. why did u write my username in your post?!
Guest Chris b.a.r.f. Posted May 17, 2003 Report Posted May 17, 2003 Brody: I didn't :) Something up with the board, it's happened in most threads I've looked at this morning....weird. ¤lindå¤: shagged = busted. No, this is not the reason for your SPV freezing. As far as I know, the latest dutch software is an evolution of the current danish version which itself works fine. Have you installed a lot of apps to your phone instead of storage card? This would be the main reason that yours keeps crashing. The SPV needs a reasonable amount of free memory on the phone itself to perform basic operations and if this space isn't available then it may well crash as a result...
Guest flashfodder Posted May 17, 2003 Report Posted May 17, 2003 Hey Chris.... How did you know I'm a heavy GPRS user? :?
Guest Chris b.a.r.f. Posted May 17, 2003 Report Posted May 17, 2003 How did you know I'm a heavy GPRS user? :? Because you own an SPV? :( (don't quite see where the question came from but there's your answer :))
