Guest xmob Posted May 16, 2003 Report Posted May 16, 2003 Hello all! Got an SPV? Got the camera to go with it? Got a copy of SmartExplorer? Then you're a good candidate for helping me out. :) Until development of the proper SPV client is finished, I've been working on a quick SPV picture to web application. The idea being you can put a picture online no matter when/where you are, as long as you have your mobile with you. I've been gently testing my newly coded gateway, and now it's time to give it a hammering by releasing it on the MoDaCo crew. If you use SmartExplorer to send a picture as an email attachment to [email protected] then the message should be processed and end up appearing at http://www.xmob.co.uk/mobile_phones/mobile_pics.php The body text of the message should also be transferred across allowing you to add comments the pics. At the minute, it's strictly one image per message. I have know idea if it will work with other image sending applications such as IA album because I haven't testing with these. I'm pretty sure it won't work with messages sent by MMS either, I'm working on that. Images won't appear immediately either, I will be screen for content before allowing them to go live. This is because my host is a bit strict about adult contect etc. But I'll be as quick as I can at checking them. After all this work you're going to tell me that you don't need or want an application like this. If that's the case then sorry. If you do like the sound of this, then I'd be chuffed to bits if you could help me out. Here's looking forward to getting my mail and web servers trashed. Pete www.xmob.co.uk
Guest mattat Posted May 16, 2003 Report Posted May 16, 2003 Seems to have worked (picture of the court yard), though at the moment the text of the e-mail has not been added as a comment. Otherwise looks very nice.
Guest xmob Posted May 16, 2003 Report Posted May 16, 2003 Seems ok so far. The comments are meant to display when you hover your mouse over the image but the flash logo on the page seems to prevent that. There is at least one user that I know got a bounced message. That's my fault, I was tweaking the code when the message came in. Sorry.
Guest amo Posted May 16, 2003 Report Posted May 16, 2003 Yeah I think that was me....heres a copy of the error message i received. The original message was received at Fri, 16 May 2003 20:15:24 GMT from kryten.ryedaleinternet.co.uk [127.0.0.1] ----- The following addresses had permanent fatal errors ----- "|/etc/smrsh/test.sh" (reason: 2) (expanded from: ) ----- Transcript of session follows ----- /etc/smrsh/test.sh: line 32: syntax error: unexpected end of file 554 5.3.0 unknown mailer error 2
Guest xmob Posted May 16, 2003 Report Posted May 16, 2003 Ouch! Considering what I do for a career I'm giving waaayyyy too much info away there. I think I should turn bounce message off for this test.
Guest xmob Posted June 6, 2003 Report Posted June 6, 2003 Right, sorry it's been so long, I've been what you might call a bit busy. Anyway, ignore all the previous messages, I've changed the way it works. Send an MMS to [email protected] and that should be it. Any text you include will be shown when you hover your pointer over the image. Oh, the pictures will still show at www.xmob.co.uk/mobile_phones/mobile_pics.php I've only tested this with Orange MMS so far too. Let me know if you try to use it.
Guest madu Posted June 6, 2003 Report Posted June 6, 2003 Cool!! If you could implement the following that would be tops (also save GPRS MB and allow using inbox email client with file attached: - Accept zip file - Unpack - image files to web - subject as title (include counter x+1 for each pic within archive) - text in email body in format filename1:comment; filename2:comment; Just my 2p, no biggy ocourse. regards
Guest xmob Posted June 6, 2003 Report Posted June 6, 2003 My ultimate plan is to write a client for the SPV that allows you to do pretty much all that. There would be no need for emails etc either as it would talk straight to the web server. I was going to do it as a PIE (pocket IE) page but PIE doesn't do multipart posts or allow the user to browse for files.
Guest madu Posted June 6, 2003 Report Posted June 6, 2003 Let's face it: PIE is utter **** 8) And IF someone developed a decent browser or a good addition to PIE that would deserve some ££ out of my wallet... Sorry, a bit offtopic, am afraid to hijack the topic... as it often happens. Now back to the client: I assume you are talking about a SP application in C. I suggest you run the service for a little while to see the popularity and add a 'poll' (click edit on your first post in topic to do so) to check the demand for 'advanced application'. Also, you could allow for users to register accounts and have their own pictures page for them and their mates to view. (Ie - have 2 passwords>user/viewer). PS: I know it's early stages, so this is just my ideas if you feel like taking it further, ignore if you wish.
Guest xmob Posted June 6, 2003 Report Posted June 6, 2003 Hows about this for an application: 2 parts, one for the SPV, on for the web server. The web server part pretty much speaks for itself, shows pictures, lets users register, blah blah blah. The SPV part goes like this: You start the application. You browse to a (local) image that you want on a web site. Add a small message to the image. Say if you want it to be public or semi private. You've already added server/user/pass in the configs. Hit go. By some miracle your picture appears on a web site.
Guest paradox ewan Posted June 9, 2003 Report Posted June 9, 2003 nice work! we are setting a similar system at the moment, sending mms messages to the site, which are being used as textures in a 3d enviroment, and allowing users to set avtars on the message boards from MMS messages. Working on a similar product for a real-time 3d graphics engine for the entertainment industry (nightclubs mainly) which we should be showing off pretty soon. Had some inital problems with the MMS side of things from orange, but have got that sorted out now.
Guest James Posted June 9, 2003 Report Posted June 9, 2003 have you guys see www.phlog.net same sort of thing?
