Guest MECX Posted March 15, 2003 Report Posted March 15, 2003 i just read this on yahoo news. what is the media2go software? is this another piece of software by microsoft that incorperates phone capabilities?
Guest Syvwlch Posted March 15, 2003 Report Posted March 15, 2003 MS coming to the iPod and Archos space, sounds like. with phone capacities thrown in. Imagine the flame wars on THAT battlefield. :)
Guest yatpeak Posted March 15, 2003 Report Posted March 15, 2003 Microsoft like this new idea of phones... Wyatt
Guest MECX Posted March 15, 2003 Report Posted March 15, 2003 so microsoft have a PDA OS a PDA OS with added phone capabilities a phone OS with added PDA capabilities and now a jukebox OS with added phone capabilities my god this is getting confusing!! microsoft are taking over the world!!
Guest yatpeak Posted March 15, 2003 Report Posted March 15, 2003 And don't forget the PC OS :) . Wyatt
Guest vampyre69 Posted March 15, 2003 Report Posted March 15, 2003 Hmm a lot of OS then.... ....OS = Outstanding Sh!t Overated Sh!t Overlynosesy Software
Guest ClintEastman Posted March 15, 2003 Report Posted March 15, 2003 http://www.theregister.co.uk/content/54/29741.html And i know a lot of you dislike the register!
Guest MECX Posted March 15, 2003 Report Posted March 15, 2003 hmmm no mension of phone capabilities in that one--maybe someone has got there wires crossed---i think a microsoft/creative partnership would be kick ass---creative make nice hardware if it wasnt for the rubbish software and the appauling customer service. (can you tell creative messed me about  )
Guest Syvwlch Posted March 15, 2003 Report Posted March 15, 2003 The best thing about the archos is the alternative software you can get off the web for it. Way better than the original stuff (which isn't half bad, mind).
Guest MECX Posted March 15, 2003 Report Posted March 15, 2003 all we need is a 20gig SD microdrive--will blow the lot out of the water :) ;) :D
Guest ClintEastman Posted March 15, 2003 Report Posted March 15, 2003 all we need is a 20gig SD microdrive--will blow the lot out of the water :) ;) :D Sham that will never be available, SD's are solid state only.
Guest Syvwlch Posted March 15, 2003 Report Posted March 15, 2003 Weeeeeell, IBM has a technology for nanotech memory on silicon/plexiglass (don't laugh, it's true), due to be released soon(ish). It uses less power than the other systems, is much denser and cheaper per GB (yes, GB), and the information is static, not lost over time and when power is not available. When that's out... all bets are off. Storage will be cheaper, and smaller, than anything we've ever seen before.
Guest MECX Posted March 15, 2003 Report Posted March 15, 2003 so there would be no way to develop a microdrive to fit into an sd card slot?? i know there are gig SD cards coming out but thats to small for my liking :) ;) ---how about a module that plugs on the bottom of the phone?? a nice 100GB module using Syvwlch nanotech mmmmmmmmmmm :D
Guest ClintEastman Posted March 15, 2003 Report Posted March 15, 2003 Nanotech COULD fit on an SD card (that’s the whole point), but im sure by the time it comes out SD’s will be a thing of the past. Holographic (cube) memory is the one im waiting for, and I think I’ll be waiting a while yet!
Guest MECX Posted March 15, 2003 Report Posted March 15, 2003 Sham that will never be available, SD's are solid state only. sorry for my ignorance but why would an SD device have to be solid state? couldent a microdrive device use the same input/output pins?
Guest ClintEastman Posted March 15, 2003 Report Posted March 15, 2003 SD's are to small to be anything but solid state. http://www.hgst.com/products/microdrive/index.html http://www.solutions4sure.com/Product.asp?...342&affid=11347
Guest MECX Posted March 15, 2003 Report Posted March 15, 2003 So SD's arnt solid state only--you could have some big wheel thing pokeing out using the SD slot for power and control.??? the output pins would allow for any device to be connected right??
Guest ClintEastman Posted March 15, 2003 Report Posted March 15, 2003 You could do that, but that would not be a SD CARD, which is what im talking about.
Guest MECX Posted March 15, 2003 Report Posted March 15, 2003 oh i thought you were just talkin about the interface method, you didnt mention any size criteria---surely a microdrive could be developed that would fit into an SD card slot-even if it would stick out a little--contradicting your statement that it will never be avaliable.
Guest Syvwlch Posted March 15, 2003 Report Posted March 15, 2003 Nanotech COULD fit on an SD card (that’s the whole point), but im sure by the time it comes out SD’s will be a thing of the past. Holographic (cube) memory is the one im waiting for, and I think I’ll be waiting a while yet! SD cards are a nice form-factor, but you could be right on the I/O side, if they are too slow to access 100 GB of data. Anyone know what the transfer speed is on SDs compared to a good 100GB HD in a PC? We seem to have little trouble reading MP3 and low-bandwidth video off of it.
Guest MECX Posted March 15, 2003 Report Posted March 15, 2003 good point Syvwlch i was only argueing for the sake of it really--i get like that  didnt mean to be a gerbils poohole :D p.s my girlfriend was wondering if a vibrator addon could be made for the SPV--she said it might attract more woman to the event in london :) ;)
Guest Syvwlch Posted March 15, 2003 Report Posted March 15, 2003 Anything that will make more women come to the event is a GOOD thing! Make it so, Number One.
