Guest SEM Posted May 17, 2003 Report Posted May 17, 2003 I presume that using a headset reduces the radiation (SAR) level. However, when using the headset to listen to music etc.. is the SAR rate '0' since I am not on a phone call, or is there still radiation since the phone is still on and therefore receiving a signal?

As far as I know the radiation is even worse with a headset (this was proven in the late nineties), because it leads the radiation straight into your head, So if you want to listen to music the whole day and are concerned about this, you should put the radio off, which of course unfortunately means you don't receive any calls!
Guest strathclydezero Posted May 31, 2003 Report Posted May 31, 2003 Mobile phones vary their power levels. When you are not in a phone call the power level is negligable so I'd guess listening to music on the headphones all day would be OK. The phone will occassionally 'ping' the nearest mast resulting in a spike.
Guest awarner [MVP] Posted May 31, 2003 Report Posted May 31, 2003 As far as I know the radiation is even worse with a headset Apparently it's down to inductance from the ariel to the speaker coil.
