Guest Big Ron - No Longer a Mem Posted May 17, 2003 Report Posted May 17, 2003 http://news.zdnet.co.uk/story/0,,t269-s2132701,00.html and http://news.zdnet.co.uk/story/0,,t269-s2134830,00.html US Congressman Issa demanded that Iraq's new telecoms system should be based around the US CDMA standard, rather than GSM (used by almost everyone except the USA and Japan) which he derided as "antiquated and FRENCH". That the honourable member for Qualcomm (the company which owns most the the CDMA patents) happens to derive much of his campaign finance from that corporation was something he didn't see as worth mentioning. But... surely... the reconstruction, which will be paid for with money "borrowed for" the Iraqi people was SUPPOSED to be done not just in their name... but also in their interests - NOT in the interest of re-electing a Republican congressman? Apparently not. The contract has just been handed to Global Crossing - the bankrupt and disgraced corporation that spent so much of 2002 in the news. Aren't they the company that Richard Perle takes a substantial retainer from? The guy who, until a few weeks back, was the Chairman of the Defence Advisory Committee? Whatever... it's going to be GSM based, not CDMA. Simple less on to be learned here. Next time, Qualcomm should have invested more in buying politicians. It's the best investment available in the US!
Guest Gorskar Posted May 17, 2003 Report Posted May 17, 2003 It really is sickening to see how big US companies that have their hands in congressmen pockets are getting fat off of Iraq. - like vultures. I think that the US should ban donations to political parties as its obviously a majorly corrupt system.

Whats even sicker Gorskar is that there are so many people who actually feel they can defend the actions of these corrupt companies and politicians.
Guest Big Ron - No Longer a Mem Posted May 18, 2003 Report Posted May 18, 2003 Anotrher "interesting juxtaposition of events". While US troops stoood by and watched, the country's infrastructure got taken to pieces by looters. Only now has it dawned just how MUCH damage was done - and apparently any repaired infrastructure needs to be guarded 24/7 to prevent IT being nicked immediately after the repairmen leave. SO, there will be truckloads of NEW contracts being handed out. And within 24 hours of that being announced... a decision is made that the Iraqi's will NOT be taking control of their own affairs in the near future after all. An "interim government" is now postponed for the forseeable future. Well... we couldn't have Iraqis picking who they want the contracts (that THEY are going to be paying the bills for) to go to, could we? Doubtless a new date for the interim government will be set AFTER all the lucrative deals have been handed (without competitive tenders so far) to major campaign fund donors. - just like all the others have been.
Guest adam Posted May 18, 2003 Report Posted May 18, 2003 The list goes on and on.... Can anyone tell me who was on the board who gained a $200 million contract to sell a nuclear reactor to North Korea and is now trying to get them back? Hint - he also allegedly sold weapons to some guy with an enormous moustache.
