Guest sameerabedi Posted May 17, 2003 Report Posted May 17, 2003 I've just downloaded Pocket MVP onto my phone and installed it successfully, however, when I place a normal *.avi file in the folder, there's no picture, just sound - is there any reason for that?? Also, I read somewhere someone managed to compress an entire film into DivX format and keep it on their phone to watch - how is this possible???? Reagarding Windows MP, I can't play the *.avi files I've put on there and also any *.wma files don't load up properly - the sound is ok, but the picture jumps from clip to clip, it's not continuous - am I doing something wrong??? Hope someone can help me out there!! Many Thanks Sameer
Guest flashfodder Posted May 17, 2003 Report Posted May 17, 2003 Sounds like you need two things.. Divx codec 5.02 or 5.03 & VirtualDub. You can't just stick a normal .AVI on your phone as it's probably too large. Do a search on here for Divx & VirtualDub settings. You can download the program free off the net.
Guest Nigma Posted May 17, 2003 Report Posted May 17, 2003 I have had some luck using the latest Divx Encoder (5.0.5), with the smartphone. Encoded videos (with no sound) works pretty much perfectly. However when i add sound, it starts to jerk quite a bit. Im guessing this is down to tweaking the bitrates doe both audio and video, so that it doesn't require to much processing. I've found Dr Divx (www.divx.com) is a very simple to use application, to convert movie files into the divx format. N.
Guest sameerabedi Posted May 17, 2003 Report Posted May 17, 2003 Once I've got DivX 5.02/03 and VirtualDub, then what do I do? Also, how can I install DoomSPV on my phone after getting the game, where do I put the individual files Thanks again!!!

Also, how can I install DoomSPV on my phone after getting the game, where do I put the individual files Thanks again!!! There is a good guide at divx.com. I personally recomend using the Dr Divx application, which is much easier to use. N.
Guest sameerabedi Posted May 17, 2003 Report Posted May 17, 2003 Where can I find the Dr. DivX application? Do you (or anyone for that matter) mind telling me exactly what u did to play videos on ur SPV?? Also do u know where I can get software where I can rip DVDs to avi or mpeg (so that I can then use VirtualDub on them) Somebody recommended DVDx, but u need to pay for that. Any other programs out there?
Guest sameerabedi Posted May 17, 2003 Report Posted May 17, 2003 Ok I've managed to download VirtualDub and DivX 5.0.3, and converted a file into the appropriate compression setting. However, now when I try to copy it across onto my phone it gets about 4/5 of the way and then restarts and then does the same again - why is that?????????

Em... ok ... what size is the file you are trying to copy?? where are you copying it to (should be to the strorage card) - is there enough space for your file?? Did you use the virtual dub settings recommended on this forum by Clinteastman?? Give us a bit more detail about what you are doing!!
Guest guzz Posted May 17, 2003 Report Posted May 17, 2003 what format and bit rate do i need to use to play vids on my spv smart phone?
Guest sameerabedi Posted May 17, 2003 Report Posted May 17, 2003 It's ok, for some reason, at the 3rd attempt the file successfully transferred across to my storage card and works superbly!! But how someone got an entire series of FRIENDS onto their phone remains a mystery, since each episode compresses to about 40MB, so how could they have enuff space? Plus, any info on a DVD ripper? Btw, I used the setting provided by Clinteastman and it's seems to work. Thanks for your help
