Have you tried turning off you phone and then turning it on again?

You can also try and delete all the files in the folder "IPSMMAPI" to delete some temp-files.....

Ok found the big thief it's AppMgr full of old stuff

Yeah app manager can be a real hog - i had previously tried to install fonix voice dial [which the site promised was a demo for the smartphone] before finding out that it was a PPC version and removed it. Later i was looking through app manager only to find that it had left nearly 1mb of c*#p there to slow up my phone. Grrrrrrr.

Some people have said about deleting the stuff in appmgr but others have said

the files there are used when you uninstall stuff etc, so what is the true story?

Can you delete stuff from there or not :?

I have this problem also...I uninstalled apps, even deleted all sms, MAPI folder, my ringtones and skins, expecting my memory to return to at least 6Mb but my memory is still 2Mb short.

SO has anyone tried deleting from AppMgr? Is it okay? How do you delete it then?

The only files you can *safely* delete from AppMgr are those that reference not-installed/non-existant spps. All the rest should stay there. This seemed to have been changed from the original incarnation of the SPV, where files that could safely be deleted were stored in the Install subdirectory.

Dinoalbert: Have you taken any screenshots with SmartSS? Take a few of these and you've used a lot of space, the schots are 113KB each...

@chris thanks for the info. No I dont have any SmartSS screenshots stored. I deleted almost everything i have in my phone...except the defaults.

anyway, I guess this is a result of my problem before...in fact this is happening to my Tanager from time to time. For example, I have installed a lot of basic apps/games such as the Task Manager, File Explorer, PocketMVP, SMS tools, Smartface, about 5 games, etc. etc. Then when I softresetted my phone, or when I install and uninstall something....although those apps are still there in the Programs shortcuts, I couldnt find them in the Programs-->Settings-->Remove Programs....meaning inside the Remove Programs, it was clean, nothing in there, no list of the installed apps. I dont know how to uninstall those apps I wish to remove...so what I did was I install them again...those apps I mentioned above, so that they will appear again in the Remove Progs for me to be able to uninstall this time.

Anyone came across this problem too?

dinoalbert: Looks like it could be time for a hard reset :) You could delete all the files from AppMgr, but that might leave a load of junk in the registry. Have you checked ActiveSync's Add/remove function?

A good rule of thumb is to install all apps to your Storage Card - there are very few that have to be installed to the phone's memory itself...

Guess it's somehow similair to Windows on PC. After a fresh clean install you notice a considerable performance degradation after 1 or 2 months which continues to worsen (I know that this is not directly linked to the problem we are speaking about, but I guess causes are similar). You can clean the registry, defragment... and nothing realy helps, except for your system becoming additionally unstable.

Although I did not investigate the problem, from my personal experience I would say there is no easy way. May you can delete some files and regain space, but you will likely pay with phone malfanctions (File missing, cannot find .dll ...).

I guess a better - although painful - approach would be a hard reset. MIDNIGHT wrote somewhere that he created a .cab to reinstall his phone after a hard reset. Eventually he could briefly comment on how this is done, so that we could create our own .cabs.

Frank

thanks again Chris.... I know about the AS Add/Remove function but my AS is used for both my PocketPC and the Smartrphone so its a mix-up already of apps of both my two devices

I'll try the Hard Reset

Hard resetting aint 2 bad. Just make sure you've synced contacts etc, make a copy of your start menu [assuming most progs are on your SD card] and you can be up and running in no time.

It can be a bit annoying to set up location of ringtone etc but its worth it 4 a nice "clean" SPV. :)
