Hi All : any help gratefully received.

I have acquired an SPV which a mate of a mate who used an Orange account showed me worked - that is he could make/receive calls.

It went to a 3rd party to unlock it because I wanted to use it on Vodaphone and I did not know about these great sites. The party couldnt do it so returned phone. The original guy cant get it to work with his Orange sim, so I've been having a go at unlocking.

I managed to unlock but I had two different things happening:

When reloading it would recognize the Vodaphone network but then wanted a SIM code and said the code used was invalid but although it displayed a data entry field it would not allow me to key anything in, then switched off and when it came back Vodaphone had vanished, I had no service couldnt make/receive calls and when I wanted to make a call told me the radio was off!!

or

It just tried to go onto the Orange network and failing to load anything.

Please how do I fix this mess.

Also, is it worth it? How do I know if the phone is barred - is there any way of telling?

TIA

It sounds like you might have radio set to off ?

Press the power button once to get the Quick List menu.

Goto 4 'Radio on' and press the active key.

No, I did this but it always resets itself to off. I read somewhere that the radio off was misleading - it actually meant you have no network. I checked on the network settings and they are on automatic, I can set it to manual but cannot select any network at all.

Does it just say "No network" or "Blocked" on the homescreen?

Guys

Rude of me not to reply - apologies.

All is well now, I have followed the various excellent instructions on the threads. My main problem was trying to quickly hit the action key when the phone was going thru the reboot/unlock cycle - I kept getting the lovely canary logo. It was frustrating but practise makes perfect...

In addition the phone or sim needed an unlock code but seemed to not allow me to enter a number.

A combination of finding a program which got the code out of the phone and waiting for the phone finally sorted it.
