Guest martin Posted May 18, 2003 Report Posted May 18, 2003 Have you tried the orange unlock ? [ Try here
Guest neil.thomas Posted May 18, 2003 Report Posted May 18, 2003 hi from a newbie first off i have tried to use the ota unlock site, i went through the whole thing but for some reason it has (as yet, it has only been 1hr) not done anything. im not on a orange contract im with t-mobile (for my sins) i have set up the gprs and that works ok :?: can anyone help me? ps this is a great site & i love my spv (ive only had it 3 days) :)
Guest Yu_ Posted May 18, 2003 Report Posted May 18, 2003 Well I had a few problems in that respect when you want to app. unlock it seems to want the sim the phone was registered with at least on the first occasion, or at least an Orange sim that has had a GPRS connection with the Canary. It might help if you have an active connection while you unlock, a few people have told me that it was the only way they could get the thing to work. It actually took about 6 hours to do mine the second time I unlocked it, so it could be a case of hanging on for a while. I’m sure there are other people who know more about it than I do though so if none of that helps sorry :)
Guest Monolithix [MVP] Posted May 18, 2003 Report Posted May 18, 2003 Mine unlocked within a few minutes of clicking the button. Having an open GPRS connection does help, the app seems to struggle with it occasionally.
Guest Posted May 19, 2003 Report Posted May 19, 2003 Sometimes the Orange system does take a while to filter through, just wait! :)
Guest neil.thomas Posted May 19, 2003 Report Posted May 19, 2003 It must be me as itsd been 14hrs and still nothing :) i might try it again
Guest Posted May 19, 2003 Report Posted May 19, 2003 14 hrs? That is a bit long even for Orange! :) I'd give it another go, better luck this time! :(
Guest martin Posted May 19, 2003 Report Posted May 19, 2003 I tried the unlock about 20 minutes ago and it came through in about 30 seconds. It uses APN orangeinternet but I assume everyone has this ? (unless you are pre-pay or have taken your SIM from another phone and haven't yet set it up). Watch for the small G appearing on you phone about 20 seconds after filling in the details.
Guest neil.thomas Posted May 19, 2003 Report Posted May 19, 2003 :) :( :D Its Worked! Yea! I Love My Spv thanx for all your help guys
Guest lisann Posted May 20, 2003 Report Posted May 20, 2003 Is it really as simple as just going to the orange site and getting them to unlock it??? is there nothing else in addition that you have to do? or is that it? This may seem like a really dumb question... but are you supposed to and are you allowed to keep it unlocked?
Guest awarner [MVP] Posted May 20, 2003 Report Posted May 20, 2003 That is all there is to do :) Technically this is ment to be for developers but that has not stopped anyone. As for keeping it unlocked it could be possible for Orange to relock the phone but would that really happen :?
Guest SirOracle Posted May 20, 2003 Report Posted May 20, 2003 I think it real possibility to lock your phone back, how long before malicious coding????
Guest lisann Posted May 20, 2003 Report Posted May 20, 2003 Fair point... but do as i do... scan all downloads before uploading them to your phone. Paranoid, but safe :)
Guest MPJ Posted May 21, 2003 Report Posted May 21, 2003 Have not tried the Orange web unlock yet. Do you have to do the bit about creating a certificate, or once it is unlocked, can you run any programme?
Guest lisann Posted May 21, 2003 Report Posted May 21, 2003 Yeah I thought that... but apparently not. Mine is working okay... so far! I was weary of doing it at first, but I would seriously recommend it to anyone considering it. 8)
Guest Will Posted May 21, 2003 Report Posted May 21, 2003 there are so few people writing real applications for SPV, it's unlikely someone will bother to make a malicious app.. (and it's VERY traceable) Will
